Does it drop his stock? If it was an attitude thing maybe we didn’t need him anyway. I’m not convinced he’s much of an upgrade over Crawly at this point.

With the season he just had, good thing the Saints didn't trade for him. Better off sticking with Crawley and Breaux for now.

Glad that trade fell apart. He will be a FA. I don't see the Pats paying Cooks either. We made the right move IMO. We also have the Pats preseason darling WR after it all went down. If that guy shows up next year we side stepped a couple of big problems in Cooks and Butler.

The Pats secondary was getting shredded through the air. Hard to believe that Butler couldn't have helped.

What about your #3/slot corner? Are you ok with PJ :rolleyes: or Breaux (I think he gets cut in camp). I'd still take a chance on him Malcolm. Things hadn't been right with Butler/Belichick since pre season. No doubt he had a bad season (it happens) but he's still a good player.

Thanks to BB, MB won't break the bank in Free Agency either.

From all I am hearing is that he was sick first part of the week. Sounds like he didn't practice much and they thought he couldn't contribute because of it. He has backed that stroy to a degree. Even though he felt he could have changed the game...

I just can't rely on Breaux any longer. Something tells me he won't stay healthy. Here are some other guys I hope we target in FA at slot corner.

Belichick being Belichick finally caught up with him.

Butler will be a lot cheaper now and is a definite upgrade over Crawley

Butler will not come cheap.

I am not sold on Breaux's "health", at all. Besides, too much time away...

We do need an upgrade over PJ but DE/MLB trumps that IMO

PJ is horrible but Butler is overpaid for a slightly better than avg cb. Breaux is coming off a series of injuries but I can’t see him being any worse.

If this is accurate, why even dress the guy? Why not leave him at home? Put him in street clothes. Bench him for a series or two. Was BB trying to embarrass the man on national TV? To shame him? Everyone not named Stephon Gilmore was skull drug last night on that defense.

Not sure what kind of statement Bill was trying to make in the most important football game on the season. You tell Rowe at the end of the National Anthem that he's starting? WTF? BB plan backfired.

Surely Malcolm could have helped that secondary last night.

Butler was not benched, he played Special Teams in the first half. I find it difficult to believe that Belichick benching someone doesn't mean exactly that. Fully benched.

The way I understand it is that Butler was a healthy scratch on Defense because Bademosi practiced and game planned all week with the starters...

No. He played one snap from what they were saying on NFL Radio. And, you don't healthy scratch AND still be on the active roster. That makes no sense.

Please pardon my misuse of terminology, 'healthy scratch' as in he wasn't hurt but wasn't allowed to play defense.

I watched the game, read a few articles, and listened to a 1/2 hour discussion on NFLSirius about it this morning.. he played special teams.

He also cried during the National Anthem, I figured he didnt play because it was something personal and his head wasn't right.

With the diligence of the media I am sure we will eventually find out the whole story, no matter how personal or invasive it may be. That is why I left the media field many years ago. I cared too much.

The Saint was right for not trading for Butler. Butler is not a bad CB but he is no elite CB either. I feel the patriots chances of winning the SB would've been greater due to the depth of quality db's on their roster. As of now, Crawley and Williams are better than Butler in my opinion. I believe Butler is a physical and feisty CB that can be beat if you don't have support coverage from the safety.

I believe Breaux will be a saint next year. The saints will sign him to a 2nd rd tender. I feel for what happen to him at the SB but no need to break the bank to sign Butler.

Where the proof on these statements? ESPN is reporting he flew in a day after the team cause he was in the hospital for the flu, no mention of using marijuana or late for meetings. I believe BB thought by doing what he done against Kyle Arrington by replacing him with Malcolm Butler would work in his favor by replacing Butler with Rowe. BB don't have any sympathy or loyality to his players, he did this before when he cut Tiquan Underwood the night before the super bowl

I think ward is a great player but I lost all respect when he sat the bowl game. Show so dedication. It lets me know he will sit for a new contract and probably the slightest injury

It was bad whatever it was. You don't bench a guy, IN THE SUPER BOWL, who has played 95 percent of your snaps, for match up reasons. As Rowe gets beat. And beat again. Philly touchdown! And beat again. I wouldn't touch him. Plus, the Saints don't need him.

Who would you target at slot corner? PJ isn't the answer at the position & Breaux is still a "unknown". We may not necessarily "need" Butler but we certainly require an upgrade at slot.

I absolutely have no faith in Breaux. Even when he was on the field he only showed flashes and earned a lot of penalties.

At some point, the good people of Boston will like to know the "real reason" why Butler didn't see the field. Belichick was quoted as saying it wasn't disciplinary reasons. "We put the best players out there that gives us the best chance to win". Rowe gives you the best chance? Rowe lined up on Agholor OR Jeffries was a death wish. Butler is your best tackler, made the play to win your team a SB in years past, plays good coverage (95% of snaps) but doesn't play in the Super Bowl. That's some cold S*.

Credit Peterson and Foles for exposing a weakness.

I'll be curious to see how this unfolds in Free Agency for Butler.
