Mid-way through the second round...
The Saints have moved up to draft Brown (overall not a bad move, but with DJ on the board???) Was OT really a bigger need than LB? Then, in round two a safety. Tops on everyone's list I'm sure. PS - Howard hasn't been traded has he? Just checking. Just wondering what the sunshiners think. Also, Whodi must be blowing a gasket. It's OK Whodi, you'll be happy in 2005 when Howard has 15 sacks - 9 from the DT spot. Who thinks the run D is going to be better?!?!?! ZERO DTs signed. FISHER signed at LB. That middle is looking tough huh? If only we had traded Howard, maybe we could have snagged that kicker before the Jets did. |

The great news is that our offensive line is about as good as you could ask for.
While I think Mayberry was a definate upgrade over Riley, Jamal Brown is a beast and it was one of the positions I said I would be happy drafting. Every expert in the country likes the pick and agrees it was an area of need. By the way, Deuce McAllister called Haslett and thanked him for drafing Jamal Brown! As far as LB\'s go. The only LB I was confident that was a true play-maker was DJ. All the rest of those LBs really didn\'t impress me and I\'m not so sure they would have made that much of a difference. Of course, most fans in New Orleans are desperate for a LB and they wanted one no matter what. There was ONE LB picked in the 1st round. It was a very WEAK year for LB. Still, I would have gambled on a LB before picking a safety. Players aren\'t great because of where they were picked or whether or not they were \"need\" areas. Joe Montana wasn\'t great because the 49\'ers need a QB. He was great because he was Joe Montana. Deuce McAllister isn\'t great because we needed a RB. He\'s great because he\'s Deuce McAllister. The draft is hit and miss. The Saints picked players that they thought would make the team. Were they right? Who knows? We\'ll see what these 2nd round LB do in 2005. I wanted a LB as much as anyone. But I really wasn\'t thrilled with the LBs in the 2nd round and beyond. I see no huge loss by not selecting on. We definately didn\'t pass up the next Ray Lewis. And if we did, it will be a complete surprise to every expert that I\'ve heard comment on the LBs in the draft. [Edited on 24/4/2005 by GumboBC] |

Thomas Davis FS Okay, there were 2 linebackers taken in the first round. Ware played DE and Davis is a FS who would have been converted to LB .... maybe!!! Still, ONLY 2 LB were taken in the 1st round. It was a WEAK year for LBs. |

I\'m confident that our O will be in great shape. Let people stack the line against Deuce. Our WRs will burn single covering CBs. Sure they have to catch the ball, but I feel a lot better about our protection and running game.
I\'m still holding out hope a Simon trade. Otherwise, this looks like a D draft bust. |
