yikes, something sensible??? that is almost a whole grade upgrade for the whole draft righ there. i\'ll be anxious to see this kid get a shot. not wishing for bad luck to others but maybe if he could get his first start with the team at 7-3...

poetic justice

In the 5th round too? This is the first pick I am genuinely happy with. Yes. I hope they actually let him compete in camp. He prob won\'t start but he could use the experience.

My emotionally charged grades after each round
1-A-minus
2-F (until I read he\'s replacing Bellamy)
3-B
4-F (a younger Germaine Crowell)
5-Back to a B baby!!!!

AWESOME PICK. And I\'n certainly no AB hater either.

LOOMIS, I could kiss you on the lips!!!!! :D

Danno, you are hilarious dude. :rollinglaugh:

I had us as a C overall, but picking McPherson moves it to a B. That was my favorite pick. I have nothing against Brown, but passing on DJ on the 32nd ranked D is unacceptable to me, but I give the Brown pick a B for stealing him from Carolina, and cause we can keep Mayberry at G.

I LOVE this pick!!

Tremendous athlete, tremendous on the job training in the arena league, tremendously humbling experience to get here, tremendously affordable cap number.

With a wonderlic of 26, he\'s a lot more intelligent than AB. Will probably understand the playbook better than AB by the end of training camp.

Better physical tools than AB, can make ALL the throws unlike the current QB. We may finally get to see some touch passes and screens now.

Guaranteed to be the #2 by opening day. Hopefully AB holds out a long time and McPherson gets a lot of reps in camp.

If this guy gets a chance, he will out-Vick the Falcons. Fast, better arm, more intelligent, going to require teams to spy him. This is the best move this team has made at the QB position since drafting Archie Manning.

I am very happy about this pick. give a year or two in the system and he could seriously push for starter. This is the first pick that i got excited about.

Over all i give the draft a B-. Im ok with Brown and the LB (cant rememebr his name), I was confused about Bullock but he has a chance to compete for a stop. I question the WR, but if healthy he is supposed to be good. He is the only one that may not maket he team so far, but I hope he does.

1. C- ( I hate the trade, but I like Brown)
2. F ( I can\'t see how this guy will be on the field this yr)
3. A (I just love what I read bout this guy)
4. F ( he want even make the roster)
5. B+ (in 2 years he will be the starter)

overall grade ( D-) can\'t overlook this 1st, 2nd, & 4th picks

I\'m not even implying McPherson is the savior. But at least the FO knows that if Brooks goes down, and all we have is Todd Bouman, we\'re done. Good recognition boys.

I just read where this guy isn\'t accuate. Doesn\'t have good touch on his passes.

Maturity, football intelligence and his ability to quickly pick up the NFL defensive schemes are still in question.

Sounds like what you guys say about Aaron Brooks.

Just think ... if this guy ever gets on the field then we\'ll have an Adrian McPherson bashing crew.

Y\'all love dem back-up QBs ... Don\'t ya? :D

As explosive as Lyman is as a special teamer, and if he\'s healthy, I don\'t see why he coudn\'t make the roster. He is just as talented as Gardner with good hands and great speed. Just to repeat myself... IF healthy. Anyways... stinking Falcons took my Boley. THOSE BASTARDS!!! :comp26:

I really like this pick. HUGE upside. I think going to the AFL really humbled this kid and taught him what it means to be a professional. Anyways as for the rest of the draft:

1. Brown - B (Still can\'t believe we passed on DJ, but glad we stole one from CAR)
2. Bullocks - F (WHY?????? We passed on Burnett...)
3. Fincher - A- (I love this kid\'s attitude and bulk)
4. Lyman - D (Should have known we\'d do something stupid like this)
5. AMac - A+ (Biggest upside of perhaps any player in this draft. Dang I feel good about this one!)

..off course, those would be comments on a draftee... not on a 5yr veteran who\'s been given every chance there is...

Negatives: Off-field problems might be behind him, but teams will be very cautious before deciding if he is worth the gamble … Relies more on his athletic ability than a knowledge for the game and is still doing it all on instincts alone … Can get rid of ball quickly most of the time, but tends to have a little bit of a windup when flushed out of the pocket and when throwing to his left … His accuracy seems to be better when he is on the move and on touch throws rather than in the pocket (tends to get impatient).

However, McPherson was arrested on Nov. 27, 2002 on charges of stealing a blank check and receiving nearly $3,500 after it was cashed. He was kicked off the team, finishing his career with 98 of 192 passes for 1,215 yards (51.0 percent), 14 touchdowns and one interception. He also gained 196 yards on 71 rushing attempts (2.8 avg.).

Three months after being dismissed from Florida State, he was also charged with gambling on pro and college games (a second-degree misdemeanor). He attempted to enroll at another school, but with the legal issues, was forced to sit out the 2003 season. Once his legal troubles were behind him, McPherson became the youngest player to ever suit up for an Arena Football League team at age 19.

Mike Vick ? 4.71 in the 40-yard dash = Adrian McPherson

Accurate? (51.6 percent) WOW!!

We got ourselves a QB guys!!

Wait till WhoDat finds out. :exclam:

What Gumbo doesn\'t realize is that he ran a 4.5 for his private workout and was right on the nail with almost every single one of his passes. Not to mention he threw the ball 70 yards down the field with EASE.

Well Brooks beat Petyon Manning in the accuracy contest and also won the Long Throw copetetion.

And Brooks has never been arrested. ;)

Since Billy needs to rise to the defense of Aaron Brooks on the same day the guy is drafted, I feel pretty upbeat about real competition for who ends up on top of the depth chart.

Prepare to be frustrated this season.

I can hear you guys now. Please put in McPherson. I can\'t believe Haslett won\'t put him in the game.

If Steve DeBerg can say \"McPherson is the best Qb he has seen at age 20 is awesome. DeBerg played for the christians back in the day so he has seen a lot of qbs even including Elway.

In his first AFL start he threw for six TD\'s and ran for three more. for the season (14 games), Mcpherson threw 61TDs (with only 5 picks) and scored 19 more TD\'s rushing. the 61 TD passes, example, ranked 12th in the AFL. Still, it must be noted, McPherson was the youngest player in league history at 20 years old, so his season was a special one.

His agent Steinberg said \"he has the look of a franchaise QB.

Let\'s see him in preseason, then we\'ll decide if he was better than our last savior who\'s name was... O\'Sullivan.

McPherson is probably the best physical prospect we\'ve ever had at QB, aside from Archie. If he ever gets a chance to play, watch out.

AB needs to get Bledsoe on the phone and figure out how to handle his transition with a little class.

I can promise you something and that he is better than Osullivan.. That guy had 1 good year in NFL EUROPE.. This guy has an ARM.. and he is Fast... He\'s still young thou but give him sometime trust me He will be turning some heads just like the poster boy of the NFL has..(VICK) :)

Who is shocked that Billy is in here already posting the negatives about McPherson?? Kind of Pessimistic. Hey Billy, did you post negative remarks about any of our other draft picks, or just this one? That agenda is showing....

Of course, agenda or not, Billy is probably right. There is a reason this guy fell to the 5th round. We\'ll have to see. He seems like a more athletic Aaron Brooks to me. I mean, how stupid do you have to be to be the one guy kicked off of the team at FSU???? Wow.

That said, I did see an interview with him a few weeks back and he seems to have matured. He seemed more humble and said he just wanted a shot. Well, looks like he\'ll get it.

I sincerely hope that he pans out. I think that this kid has the tools to be a very good NFL QB - better than Brooks. What we\'ll have to see is if he has the smarts and the attitude that AB does not.

I\'ll say this - if the Saints are out of the gate slow again and McPherson seems to be picking things up quickly, I would not be surprised to seem him play the second half of some week 7 game when we\'re being routed and never give the position up again....

We\'ll see.

I\'m looking forward to his United Way commercial:

Adrian McPherson likes to give back to his community so he volunteers with juvenile programs, because Adrian believes everyone should get a second chance to make things right.

He\'s the New Orleans Saints answer to Michael Vick... without the Herpes.

And he volunteers with the United Way.

To start...i would like to say YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This hasn\'t made up for the DJ situation, but I am all for this pick! It\'s funny what a difference a day can make.

This is to Gumbo though....

Dude....I know you like AB. It\'s been well documented. However, all of a sudden you see that many of us are much more optimistic about the upcoming season. Wasn\'t it you that said that we needed to be more optimistic? Now we have A-MAC and we are! But here you come trying to be the proverbial wet blanket. I can\'t understand that for the life of me! You should be prepared for the fact that it\'s obvious that the coaching staff(and fans) are wearing thin of AB\'s antics and may feel that if things don\'t shape up, that it\'s time for a change. AB\'s still the number one guy, and will be if he is the man that you say he is, so don\'t sweat it so much. We just have a little back up now. Just some younger, smarter, stronger, more athletic and highly regarded back up. ;)

Who is going to be AMac role model? AB? LOLOLOLOL

If this was a year where AB had to negotiate at new contract, maybe. I hope AMac does not learn from AB, or this will be a bust in the biggest way.

The smiling AB on the sidelines could turn to frowns big time if AMac get his chance. Character issues aside, this kid has a strong arm and quick read and feet. Enough said.

What in the world was the FO thinking on our 2nd pick. Someone fell asleep at the wheel. lolololololololol

he is a definite project but with legitimate upside. espn went on about him more than any other saint pick. i feared they might have taken him in the 3rd rd. this is a great risk/reward investment. that is my prob with bullocks, fincher, and lyman is that they could have been taken a round or two later (like mcpherson as a value here).

i am cracking up that billy immediately praises fincher saying there is as much negative comment about derrick johnson as him but when a qb is selected straight away the guy\'s negatives are pointed out.

JKool 04-24-2005 02:43 PM

Adrian McPherson

Looking around at the reports, I kind of agree with Billy on DJ. Brown is a safer, stronger pick.

I think we\'ll move Howard for a vetran LB or DT - that is better than picks anyway.

I see what your saying though; Billy, there are lots of negative things said about all our other picks, why harp on MacPherson?

GumboBC 04-24-2005 02:47 PM

Adrian McPherson

You guys crack me up. Such a jolly group of AB Bashers. And that\'s the reason I posted the \"negatives\" on the guy.

Some of you guys are sooooooooooo ... what\'s the word I\'m looking for.

Hypicritical? Yeah, that\'s the one.

You guys go around preaching how important \"character\" and \"leadership\" is but I haven\'t heard either one of those mentioned in this thread. Or mentioned about anyone in the entire draft.

McPhearson is the only guy we drafted that got arreseted. And he got arrested for STEALING!!

Hell of a character guy. Albert Conell anyone?

And IF McPhearson goes on to get in trouble in New Orleans, the same old \"crowd\" will be saying how dumb Haslett and Loomis were for drafting that bum.

Some of you guys abosolutely confuse the hell out of me.

With all the \"character\" and \"leadership\" threads I\'ve had to read through on this board ... All of that is now suddenly not important.

How \'bout y\'alls favorite word ... CANCER?

Please .. post what you want to. Just don\'t expect me to buy that ya\'ll are concerned about \"leadership\" or \"character\".

I never bought it to begin with. But I\'m sure of it now.

Danno 04-24-2005 02:50 PM

I personally think he has officially paid for his mistakes. He was a 1st/2nd round talent that slipped to the 5th. Thats a lot to pay for his childish stupid behavior 4 years ago.

If he\'s still an Albert Connel we can cut him and it won\'t hurt us one bit. But if he has truly learned, then we just got a guy who MAY become a combination of Vick/Culpepper/McNabb.

At any rate it will put some pressure on AB, which has been shown to work the 4 freaking times its been tried.
