this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; 1. Jammal Brown - B - can\'t forgive them for passing on DJ, but I actually had the Saints taking Brown on my draft board. I don\'t think we\'ll regret Brown, but we may regret snubbing DJ more. 2. Josh ...

Overall Grade - D+
Jamal Brown - (D) I\'m not giving Jamal Brown a D, because he\'s a great lineman. I\'m giving the decision to draft him a D because they drafted the wrong side of the ball. At first when the Saints first traded up to #13, I thought they were going to go after Derrick Johnson from Texas, but alas, I had to shout obsenities at my television for a third year in a row for not drafting a CB or LB. I\'m so dissapointed with this first pick, but perhaps drafting Jamal Brown will help the O-Line. Get ready for another year of teams running against us... 2. Josh Bullocks - (F) Where did this come from? I thought this guy was going to fall to at least the fourth round, but alas, the Saints amaze me again. I swore the Saints were going to move with Corey Webster or Kevin Burnett. I guess this was Mickey Loomis trying to save his job by picking the wrong defensive position. 3. Alfred Fincher - (B) He\'ll start with the terrible linebacker corps the Saints have been fielding for the past decade. This is the position I honestly thought the Saints were going with in the first round. 4. Chaser Lyman - (F) This guy won\'t be around long. Has anybody seen the laundry list of injuries this guy had in college (ankle, groin, hamstring, hip, appendicitis)? He had to sit out an entire season, and missed a TON of games during his college career. 5. Adrian McPherson - (F) I\'m highly against bringing this guy to New Orleans. Why bring a troubled player to New Orleans for crying out loud? Get ready to hear about Police Reports and mishaps in the city with this guy. He may be productive, but I would have gone elsewhere to develop a QB. I can see the need of finding a back up QB, but do you honestly think Brooks is scared of losing his job to him? 6. Jason Jefferson - (A) Perhaps a steal for a sixth round pick. If the Saints can get him to lose a bit of weight and develop a touch of speed (Ran a 5.2/40 at the combine), he may develop into a decent starter. Perhaps the first good pick the Saints made. Was Mickey Loomis not in the war room during this selection? 7. Jimmy Verdon - (C) Although he does lack size, I see this guy as a second string lineman for the next couple of years while developing. Could fill a void due to injury perhaps. Overall Draft Grade - D+ - I didn\'t see the reason for the positions that were drafted when they were drafted. I thought they would have gone LB, CB, then OL, but alas, I was proven wrong, again. This is by far one of the weaker drafts I\'ve seen in the past few years, but at least the Saints didn\'t draft a kicker in the second round (I.E. - NY Jets). I hope the Saints can make some more moves for the defensive side during free agency, but highly doubtfull. I expect yet another mediocre season coming up, perhaps a 7-9 or 8-8, unless the defense can over-achieve and the offense finally decides to play together. |

1. Jammal Brown- (A-) If this is truly the guy you had at the top of your list, then you achieved your goal. The fact that he was the first tackle chosen in the draft further backs the claim that he was \"your guy\", instead of settling on the next best player.
2. Josh Bullocks- (D) I thought we had our special teams players covered. Good luck in being anything more. 3. Alfred Fincher- (C) Not completely sold this was the avenue to take. But I don\'t know enough of the guy to be for sure. 4. Chaser Lyman- (F) Who the hell? Was never on the radar. 5. Adrian McPherson- (A-) Loved it! I\'ve seen some arena league games he\'s played in and the guy is a specimen. 6. Jason Jefferson- (B) Damn good value for someone who was projected to go in the 4th. Need all the help we can get against the run. 7. Jimmy Verdon- (C+) He is what he is. A situational DE against the run. He will need some work, though. Overall, I give it a (C) if you don\'t consider that we traded away our 3rd rounder for next year. (D-) if you do (gotta take it into account at some point, don\'t we?) I think you summed up the same grades I\'d have given, BnB.
Add to that the dismally non-aggressive Free Agency, and I\'ll stick with an overall offseason grade of D. I sincerely hope that there is more activity coming now that the draft is over. And if not.... it\'ll be a long season. With empty stands by the end of it. |
