Alright:
Brown - A. Best lineman in the draft. This guy allowed like 1 sack in some ridiculous number of games. I wanted DJ, but I\'m over it. Bullocks - C+. A Safety, WTF? However, he allows us to let Dwight roam free rather than cover Bellamy\'s butt. We get to go back to a right-left safety system (rather than a free-weak system). This the guy who can do what they claimed Mitchell would do. I don\'t understand not getting a LB, but if you thought you could get your guy in the 3rd (and Fincher was the guy), then you did alright. Furthermore, for everyone who says we could have got him in the 3rd, think again - there were two other FS\'s taken between when we took him and our 3rd pick! Fincher - B-. Character guy, a lot of tools, good attitude. I think he\'ll play SLB, where I have no doubt he is an upgrade over Allen. Sure, we\'ll have to wait and see, but given what I\'ve seen from Allen - I\'m fine with anyone who sounds like he\'s going to be good. I would have preferred Blackstock, but I would have given Blackstock a B- here too - we needed a playmaker, and we got a 3rd rounder. Lymon - D/F. A WR? WTF? I don\'t get this and I probably never will. We may as well have traded this pick for a 3rd next year, I bet someone would have bitten. McPherson - C+. If he come through, great; if he doesn\'t, we wasted our 5th... oh no. Also, no matter how you slice it, this was a good value pick. Jefferson - B-. Area of need, solid player. Fine pick. Verdon - C. DE? His bio didn\'t look too impressive to me. He can play DT too (though, he\'d be extremely small - he\'s like 30 lbs lighter than Young). 7th round pick, hard to say who cares. Overall Grade: B-. We needed an OT, LB, DT, and depth at QB, S, and CB. Guess what, we got them all (except CB). D? Because we didn\'t get DJ? I wanted him as much as the next guy, but our rushing attack was 29th (not much better than our 32nd ranked D), and we decided ball control was more important than the middle of our D. Ok, I\'m not behind that, but it isn\'t stupid. Sure we need a stud at DT, but who was there T. Johnson? Who would have been happy with that with our first? I wanted DJ, but barring that, Brown is awesome! For all you guys who says our FO won\'t trade to get their guy? What now? They did, and now you\'re upset about it? I\'m confused. This is not the draft that I wanted, but I\'m having trouble deciding why I should write us off. We were 8-8 last year with the 29th rushing attack and the 32nd ranked D. We have improved our OL - with Mayberry and Brown. Improving our line will improve our rushing game - which should make us better. We have solidified an already impressive passing attack with a better OL. Good work. We have taken measures to improve our defense. Getting Dwight Smith is a stroke of excellence. A ballhawk who gives us options at CB and FS! Nice. I\'m sure we\'ll get worse as a result?! We add a guy who can do what Mel Mitchell was supposed to do all along - allow us to play mixed coverages and a left-right system! Boy our FO is nuts! Increasing options, getting a playmaker and so on. Sure, I wanted Ruud or Burnett after DJ was gone, but my disappointment doesn\'t make this draft worse than it is. I think a Howard deal for a DT or an LB is still in the works. If that doesn\'t happen, I give our offseason a C/C+, if it does (depending on the player), I give it a B/B+. |

Brown is considered a better pass blocker than a run blocker. Draw your own conclusions from that.

New Orleans Saints
Drafting tackle Jammal Brown is a key for the Saints. (AP) Best pick: Moving up in the first round to get Jammal Brown to play right tackle is a good move. Now they can move Jermane Mayberry back to right guard. This line is going to be a powerful unit. Questionable move: Receiver Chase Lyman, a fourth-round pick, has had a long line of injury problems. Steal: Taking a chance on quarterback Adrian McPherson will help give this team a developmental prospect in case Aaron Brooks doesn\'t continue to grow. Overall grade: B+. Love the move up to get Brown, and second-round pick Josh Bullocks and third-round pick Alfred Fincher will push for time as rookies. Prisco\'s off sportsline.com ... judging from other grades, it looks like we had a very solid draft. My personal opinion is a solid B and would be higher if we had drafted a HEALTHY Lyman. But if he can contribute a year or two down the road (remember he\'s only a 4th rounder), this will prove to be one of our strongest draft classes in recent years. All three of our first round picks will be able to contribute immediately which is always a plus. Our defense looks like it\'s going to generate many more turnovers and the range of our secondary looks much improved. We didn\'t get the biggest or fastest guys out there, but we got some football players. I like the direction we are headed in. [Edited on 25/4/2005 by papz] |

BnB,
I conclude that we\'re going to run inside behind Holland, Bentley (pro-bowler), and Mayberry (pro-bowler). And not off tackle behind Gandy (pro-bowler) and Brown (arguably the best OT in the draft). |

I don\'t think I did a good job of getting my point across. I was thinking more along the lines of catering to the golden boy.

Now that the tourcher is over I can\'t wait to see Loomis gone!! I t is too bad to see that they have great & talented scouts, but a idiotic FO. 1st of all Jammal Brown is a helluva pick that seems to be a more reliable OT than Alex Barron but why in the do you trade up w/ 2 potentially prospect that can improve a defense ranked DEAD last in almost every category and draft OT? I can careless carolina was interested in picking him. Point blank they waited that long, an with Jammal Brown, Alex Barron, Derrick Johnson and Thomas Davis on the board this was IDIOTIC move. (C+)
Once again the scouts was on target finding a worthy 2nd rd pick but with the signing of Dwight Smith this was a unnecessary pick. Lousy Loomis with this pick should\'ve draft a player that can come in and challenge for a starting position if not for the 1st week at least by the middle of season. Why draft a player who might not see the field til next season? I was certain that a LB or CB will be picked ( Odell Thurman or Justin Miller). (F) At this point I had absolutely no faith in our FO and what do they do go find a gem. I don\'t know much bout this kid (Fincher) but what i have read bout this guy was outstanding. He have enough speed to cover and make sideline to sideline tackles. #1 reason I like the kid that everyone of the analysts say this guy RARELY struggles to disengage from OL to make a plays. hint for Haslet don\'t hold back on this kid (A) I was so excited an ready for what was in store for the 4th and what do the FO do, put me back in my place and draft a WR that can\'t stay healthy. I was certain Hawthorne would be picked here. How do they think this guy will make the team? I can\'t see him making it over Beerman or Gardner. Don\'t get me wrong this guy have alot of potential but I would want a more reliable WR if I was going to pick one here. I thik they thought they will be able to replace the beerman with Devery & bring this guy along like Talman but it will be foolish if the guy stay on IR. (F) It was over I couldn\'t take anymore. I drink a couple of beers watching the NBA, commercial come on so I turn back an see QB Adrian Mcpherson under NO. I couldn\'t believe it. I would \'ve never think of a black QB being pick by us. This guy will certainly be the starter in 2-3 years. The draft is starting to look like the games of last year. (A) When Hawthorne was off the board I could careless bout the other prospect. Jason Jefferson & Jimmy Verdon might be a nice fit but I didn\'t read anything to excite me (C). overall grade (D+) |
