Excellent point. He will not be drawing premier coverage. He'll get lost in the shuffle. All he has to be is quasi open and Brees will hit him. He good hands, speed, size and is good with YAC.

Potentially, signing the 6' 3" Meredith takes some pressure off of finding a dual-threat Tight End that has a big catch radius for 3rd down, red zone targets...

Before Graham, we'd line Colston in the slot to convert those third downs and red zone conversions; below is a great article on this...

https://www.si.com/2013/09/18/marque...rald-deep-dive

...main beneficiary is Colston...New Orleans’ formations put him in the slot, which does two things: 1) It naturally accentuates his size (6-4, 225 pounds) and ability to pull down balls that are thrown away from his body, and 2) It matches him against a safety or linebacker—especially when the Saints are in standard 2-WR personnel, which, with multidimensional players like Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham, is more often than most high-flying passing attacks. In short, when Colston is on the outside against faster cornerbacks, he is a middle-tier starting wide receiver. When he is inside against slower safeties and linebackers, he ascends to Fitzgerald’s level...

Now the Saints have shown they're pretty committed to solving this recent third down, red zone problem by spending 10mil/2 years on Meredith...

And the Bears have a tough decision to make as they have to see if they can get that kind of return on their money from Meredith in the Bears' offensive scheme...

Either way, should we get that dynamic Tight End to add to the mix, the Saints 3rd down efficiency should return to its historic levels...

I was against this when it was reported he was visiting last week, but I wasn't thinking about the fact that Curtis Johnson was coaching him in 2016, which happens to be his best year. If he comes with CJ's endorsement, I'm all for it.

I'd really like this signing, he looks like a good overall WR and nice complement to Thomas. He could have a similar effect on Offense as Okafor did for our D.

Well... assuming the Bears don’t counter we could have our slot WR upgrade. Assuming also he’s healthy.

Re: Saints signing Bears’ RFA WR Cameron Meredith to a 2-year deal

So if the Bears don't match, what do we call him, Lil' Cam?

....Meredith missed all of last season with a torn ACL, but had 66 catches for 888 yards and four touchdowns during the 2016 season. Chicago’s wide receivers coach that year was Curtis Johnson, who now has the same job with the Saints and likely put in a few good words about his former charge as the Saints plotted their course...

Ah, so he knows the ways of the Whoopin' Stick!

This is exactly what I was talking about on the other thread about Payton liking in-house scouting reports from his locker room...

...and why I found it curious with all the buckeyes on the team already, why we hadn't signed NT Johnathan Hankins...
Rugby Saint II and ChrisXVI like this.

Interesting comparison by the younger Fazende...

I really think they'll match it but if they don't it would be a great addition and would keep us from drafting a WR until very late or maybe not at all.
