Where are the guys who love ..... ???
For the better part of my time here at B&G I have heard some of you say that the Saints always go after guys who can run fast and are great athletes but they just aren't great "football" guys.
Many of you bashed Haslett and Loomis for drafting guys who could run like the wind but can't catch a football or tackle anyone. You guys said the Saints go after players who lack "intangibles" and "football" smarts.
No props for the draft picks? |

Brown, good pick, Bullocks reach, Fincher reach. Why do we have to give props? Who knows what these guys are gonna do? I give props for Deuce, I give props for LeCharles, Grant, Howard, Smith. I don\'t know if Bullocks or Fincher will ever see anything but special teams. Props for Brown though. And props for taking a flyer on McPherson. That enough props?

You weren\'t around here for the last few drafts. Many folks here bashed the \"type\" of players Haslett drafted. Haslett and co. have brought in \"raw\" athletes who can run fast but lack \"football\" smarts. At least that\'s what I\'ve been told. It has been said many times that Haslettt needs to stop worring about some players 40-time and concentrate on getting players who have proven they can play their position. You know ... draft guys like the Patriots who have \"football\" smarts. Bill Parcells thinks Alfred Fincher is going to be a good one. We know Jammal Brown will be? |

I don\'t know Jamaal Brown will be. I know he has the best chance of being good out of anyone we drafted. People knew Ryan Leaf and Tony Mandarich were gonna be. Things happen. But he is by far the most solid pick. Had they picked Burnett in the second, I would have given them more props than they could handle.
And you are right, I wasn\'t around for those other drafts, but I watched them, and it seemed we had a certain MO. I am glad we got some football players, now hoepfully they play some football. |

Fincher? Nothing but special teams? Yea Right. Based on what? Our stellar talent in front of him? \"Who knows what these guys are gonna do?\" That can be said about EVERY draft pick on the planet. Whats your point? But you give props to an overweight out of shape injury prone quitter? That make sense. You give props to a guy you\'ve screamed about trading for six months now? OK. Thats consistent. Billy made an extremely valid point. (although I made it in an earlier post, but NBD) This staff has seemingly been enamoured with measurables for several years. They pick some good \"football players\" and few seem satisfied. Even though these same football players have pretty damn good measurables to start with. :casstet: Admitting you don\'t know, and then claiming this guy\'s a \"reach\" or declaring they\'re bound for special teams sounds like playing both sides to me. Or perhaps you have issues with the poster that brought up a very solid observation... |

Your opinion is that they aren\'t a reach? Danno. Danno the thinks certain guys are not a reach. Great Danno. Why do you give a flip what my opinion is and who I give props to? I give props to PROVEN players that were drafted. How is that inconsistent?Randy Moss was traded, should I no longer give the Vikes props for picking him? What the hell does wanting to trade a player have to do with giving them props? I said I give props to Brown cause I believe he has the best chance to be a proven starter. How is that inconsistent? How is anything I posted anything personal to Gumbo? He didn\'t take it that way.
On who\'s board was Bullocks the number two safety? I saw Shazor on many and he wasn\'t even drafted. I said I don\'t know if Fincher could be anything but special teams, thanks for talking loud saying nothing and reading wrong. Do you have a crystal ball that says he will be super terrific? Do you just think he is dreamy? Either way, I don\'t , and are looking for an argument where there was none. This is about the most civil convo Gumbo and I have probably had in a while. But oh no can\'t have that huh Danno? Better to see something started where there is nothing. Rather see me and Gumbo argue huh? You\'re a great guy Danno. None of them have proven themselves in the NFL yet, regardless of where the played college ball or what round they were drafted. I do agree this was a little less risky draft than prior ones. All the guys are sayin is, normally we go after an extreme athlete more than an accomplished football player. All the other guys are saying is that by the looks of this draft, our FO is finally changing their idea of how to draft ballplayers for the club. That\'s all. Everyone on this thread chill out

The thing is, everything was chill, until decided it shouldn\'t be. That\'s not cool when you are just trying to have a convo with someone you don\'t normally get along with.
