how many think brooks is history next yr if there's even a hint mac is as good as many believe? and i know it's a chance every team makes with a questionable player of talent, but how many think it was a need? afterall, if it were another qb we took at the 5th spot, would you have been equally impressed? just curious...............smitty

I think we got good value for A-Mac with a 5th round pick. I think a back up QB was a need, since we have Bouman (questionable value) and a pair of other guys (Finlen and Kingsbury) who have never thown an NFL pass.

However, A-Mac hasn\'t even signed a contract yet.

Also, I think Brooks will be a cap problem, regardless of how good A-Mac turns out to be, so he may be looking at a restructure, trade, or cut REGARDLESS of A-Mac.

Isn\'t that impossible to say?

Well, with certainty yes. However, given our cap room, I think there is reason to believe it.

Cheeky, though. Very cheeky.

But still, is Brooks worth a base salary of $5.5 million this coming season? I’d say no. Here’s more food for thought: my inside source, “guy who knows a guy, told me a couple months ago that Brooks’ total salary from last year (2004) was third highest in the NFL, behind Culpepper and Manning. I don’t know about you, folks, but when I think of the three best quarterbacks in the league, I certainly don’t envision Aaron Brooks standing next to Culpepper and Manning.

Everything is up to A-Macs development. I\'m sure the brass had AB\'s cap in mind, just as when they drafted Smith.

Regarding AB\'s yearly pay, the other QBs got massive bonuses, and more guaranteed pay, to bring their yearly salary down.
