The Saints didn’t actually trade two first round picks. They traded next year’s first rounder and a fifth rounder this year to convert this year’s first round pick from 27 to 14. They used next year’s first rounder to move up. Given what Jeff Ireland, Loomis and the rest of the front office brass have done in recent drafts, it’s hard to challenge their logic.
