check it out, interesting stuff... >in total salary deuce was like 37th if i counted right. fred mcafee, kevin houser, and lamont hall made more than he did. and ya wonder why he might be ready for a lucrative longterm? >somebody help me understand talman gardners cap value. gotta be a typo? >sullivan took home $ 4,397,783 last year >brian young, $4.5+mil i would say that is pretty poor investment return on over 9 million dollars at the DT spot >what did wayne gandy do to get a 4 HUNDRED dollar bonus? well, i\'m all about locking up deuce... it is a crying shame that he isn\'t one of the richest saints.... i found it interesting about rick barry (the basketball star from the 70\'s) said he\'d do if he were the commissioner (of the NBA, but still in all)... he said pay the player 2 mill. guaranteed with bonus every win.... you don\'t win, you don\'t get bonuses.... think these money grubbing bastards wouldn\'t play harder?

Yeah I was hearing the same kind of talk about baseball of late. You set the amount what \'said\' team as a whole is going to make this year lets say 70 million. At the end of the season you divide the money up based on performance.
-Do you know The Big Unit is going to make four-thousand some odd dollars per pitch this year... |

i\'m just saying i think it is travesty that pro athletes get paid like they do... what kind of standard does that set? a teacher gets paid what maybe $35, 000 (if that much) and all they do is teach 5 year olds how to read and write, do math, educate our future leaders of the nation, etc... athletes do what? diddly, that\'s what... don\'t get me wrong, some help the community a la peyton manning, etc. but the vast majority could give a damn what goes on.... it is shame and sets a horrible precedent that you get paid so much because you can run fast, be strong, throw far and not what you can contribute to society....

i am not enamored that athletes get paid what they do but i say all the more power to them also. it is exemplary of our free market society. jack nicholson gets 15-25million to work on a movie 2-4months. why? cuz millions of people will pay millions of dollars to see him do it. usually a lot more than what he is paid. if benson could get 69,000 people to turn out every week to see my out of shape ass run up and down the field don\'t you think he would? if there wasn\'t a league minimum salary he might even try! LOL how many people are gonna pay a few hundred dollars to go watch a teacher teach? sad, but it is just reality. how many people can teach? how many millions of teachers are they? they are very vital to the success of our society but their task is not one that commands a large payroll in the scope of supply and demand. how many kids play football in high school and would love to play college ball if they could? millions. how many play in college? several thousand. how many get a shot every year? a few hundred. how many stay on an nfl roster more than 3 years? even fewer. it is quite a pyramid of excellence to climb, usally taking 10 years, to experience just a few years on that stage. there aren\'t a lot of brain surgeons but they can practice a few years. if employer X offered me twice what i make or what the median is for my profession, should i say, no, that is too much for what i do. or should i take him up on the opportunity? ya deserve whatever you can get in america. it isn\'t always just, right, or fair but it is intrinsic to free market enterprise. as gumbo pointed out, no one twisted benson\'s or saints management\'s arm to give a lazy slob of a kid from rural georgia 9million dollars.
