this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; i know we need LB more than anything but we also need another CB to start on the other side of mike.....what if we stuck it out with our young LBs and sign Ty Law to strengthen our secondary............

I would think that just in terms of playing football this would be an ok move. Of course, I'm very curious to see how our current LBs perform anyway. But factoring in the salary cap...I don't see us even thinking of Ty Law.

i believe that if our LBs had a strong secondary to fall back on ...they would be able to perform well and stop the run even if our DTs don't step up to the plate.

Dunno about that. They should be better - but the problem isn't solved if they get better. They have to vastly improve before I can count on the defense.

if we use C Watson, A Fincher and C bockwoldt at LB and get DT Sullivan out of there ....i feel we could have a really good defense....cause we are already strong at the S and DE positions...then we just would need another depentable DT to start along side B Young.

I don't agree with cutting Sullivan at this point based on salary alone. No, he hasn't played up to expectations of even a 7th round pick, but he's really not being paid all that much in salary this year (<$500k). He's already been paid his signing bonus and that's what is affecting the cap the most. The cap hit for cutting him would be pretty harsh.
Plus, putting him out there one more time to compete for the job and at least be worth activating every week isn't a bad thing. |

i wouldnt sign law. he is a product of that team. he is getting older. if they are willing to get rid of him there must be a reason. but our lb's wouldnt be better because we had a better backfield if our dt's played the same. our linebackers would be better if our dline plays better and our cornerbacks play good. it all starts up front. always. hey is whitehead going to play for us?
