Corresponding Move For Gillislee, Saints Release Stupar

Damn...

Probably our most versatile, team-oriented linebacker; I absolutely hate this move...

Are you ****ing kidding me?! Wtf?! Jesus he's got more heart than anyone on this team. This is bull****!

Re: Corresponding Move For Gillislee, Saints Release Stupar

To be totally honest, I'm pissed off. If Ingram wouldn't have gotten in trouble than we wouldn't have needed to sign Gillislee and wouldn't need to cut Stupe. Regardless, they can't find another player to cut? Really? This guy is a teamer. He goes balls to the wall every play. And they cut him and keep ****in players who we don't need?!

Why didnt they just cut klein. He's been stinking it up since he's gotten here.

Re: Corresponding Move For Gillislee, Saints Release Stupar

We cut Stupar but we're keepin two fullbacks?
P.J Williams makes the team but we cut Stupar?

This makes no sense.

I believe Stupar will be back. He knows it's just a roster number move. I'll bet that an agreement is in place for him to return. Loomis works these kinds of deals all the time. Just remember all those player that bounce on and off the roster several times during the season.

Had that thought, but they still have to release someone (i.e. Gillislee, Edmunds, Gray) when Ingram comes off suspension...

It's because of Klein's stupid backloaded contract. It's cheaper to keep him.

He'll be back after week 1.

This happens every year.

You're right, but this move still sucks balls - Stupar has always balled-out even with a perceived limitation in physical skills to his peers...

Rather have 49 Stupars, Brees, Kamara, Lutz and a Morstead though...

We need Stupar week three. We should be fine without him against the Bucs and Browns.

Anyone catch Payton's post game presser after pre season game #4 ? A reporter asked of Stupar's performance (played extremely well) & coach abruptly went to what he should do on improving?

Then just last week I read Underhill's report that they were "shopping" Nate for a pick. I hate that he is gone but I'm not extremely confident he'll return to NO.

Hope I'm wrong.

If you want to make sure your released player isn't sought after you would try to devalue him, right? Just saying.

As I stated, I hope I'm wrong. Stupe is good linebacker depth.

Stupar won’t be back, would be very surprised if he doesn’t get picked up.

Don't forget he's coming off an ACL tear. That would scare off most teams right off the bat.

Hopefully we see a lot of Craig on the field vs Tampa. If the philosophy is to put your best 53 out there in base + stopping the run as #1 priority, it has to be CRob, Davis & Teo. Anzalone has the range so I'd mix him in on nickel.

I just don't want to see AJ Klein on the field. Period.

The Falcons linebackers have been terrible this preseason. He'd be a great pick up for them. And if they do it now, he could play against us by week 3.

I agree. It’s not like we are loaded at LB. Williams and Scott would be just fine filling in for 4 games. I could see the move if Ingram were to miss a good portion of the season but Stupar balled this offseason.

He's already been with the Falcons. I have a feeling he doesn't want to go back.

Stupar is not gone. He's just not on the roster currently.

B.S. Stupar has significant playing time in regular season games. He’s not just going to step aside. Another team will sign him any minute. This is as dumb a comment as you have ever made. Seriously you can’t bring yourself to disagree with anything the Saints do, no matter how asinine.

Devaroe gets traded, Klein is a starter, Craig Robertson is a back up, and Nate Stupar gets released to keep who?

They preach it but don’t live it anymore. I remember when Sean had the walnuts to keep who earned their place and send the ones who didn’t packing.

How exactly would that conversation go?
“Hey Nate, we are going to release you but we will bring you back later on. We aren’t going to pay you but do us a solid and don’t sign anywhere else. Let’s shake on it.”

I agree, though he didnt look bad when he took over for kuechley when he was hurt but now he gets taken out of the plays so fast and easily its a shame. Davis needs to start at mlb. Im tired of this square peg in a round hole crap, i thought they figured this out by now.

At least by that time the staff will have had four regular season games to assess which players are expendable.

Roster space gets really scarce when you cut to 53. I just hope Taysom will be worth it.

actually, that's exactly how it goes... started with Norman Hand years ago and has happened with the 3rd QB or 6th receiver or 8th or 9th OL or 4th TE every week since

Just got to your reply. I've heard Pat Kirwan, former GM, say just that on NFL Radio more than once over the past few years. Extremely common move.
