this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Yeah, I don't see the Yucks going deep like the Pats/Vikes last year. I have a conspiracy theory but it'd be laughed off the board....

Re: Guido
In the post game, I saw the Bucs coach label him "Fitzmagic". Lol.
Simmer down fella ... you have the Champs (Philly) on tap this Sunday. The NFL has a way of humbling you. I bet he throws 2 picks. Week to week league. |

Re: Guido
This was a division game against a team that's actually far more talented than people are giving them credit for. Many experts picked them to win the division last year, but they were decimated by injuries. We're talking about Mike Evans, Desean Jackson, O.J. Howard, and Cameron Brate. Those are better receiving weapons than we have if you're being honest about it. Mike Evans is a more talented receiver than Michael Thomas. Desean Jackson is the receiver people thought Ted Ginn would be when he graduated from Ohio State. O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate are both much better than our TE options. Hell....Humphries is better than Austin Carr.
We should have won the game. There's no denying that...but crazy **** happens in division games. If this happens again next week against the Browns...feel free to hit the panic button. The main thing we need to do is move Davis back his natural position of MLB, replaced A.J. Klein with Craig Robertson, and pray Alex Anzalone can develop at WLB. Alex Okafor isn't completely healthy, so we need to just run with Davenport. As for Ken Crawley...no more single coverage for him. He needs all the help he can get. |

Still, they have a bad oline, and we didn't even sniff the QB. That's my biggest concern I guess, but my concerns are all over the map after yesterday. |

Re: Guido
It has to be coaching. It's on the only rational explanation to why we have so much talent that can't be cultivated. Kenny Vacarro was amazing as a rookie, and the longer he was here the worse he looked. I'm afraid it's going to happen with Lattimore and Williams if we don't get things figured out. We might as well run a system where Lattimore plays man to man and everybody else plays zone.

I didn't play a lot of football - was too small - and I've never coached, but it just seems to me like we are way overthinking things. |

With our personnel, we should be running Cover 2, 2-Man under, and sprinkling in Cover 6 with the deep third responsibility of the Cover 6 going to Lattimore and the over the top help responsibility rolling over to Crawley. We don't have a true center fielder, so that's why we need two, deep safeties focusing on just their side of the field. It cuts the field in half for them and their responsibilities. Demario Davis the speed to handle the middle of the field responsibilities of the MLB in a Cover 2. |

Not to mention, that leaves Williams to cover the middle of the field alone. That would explain Desean Jackson running by himself with Williams chasing him after he beat Crawley. It was probably a Cover 3 with Williams rolling over from Lattimore's side to Crawley's. You've got to have a specific kind of safety to run that defense efficiently. Earl Thomas comes to mind.![]()
Edit Post: I went and looked at the first Desean Jackson TD. It definitely looked like Cover 3. Williams was the single high safety and Jackson was working out of the slot. That's the weak spot of the Cover 3...the seams. Williams took too long to come over trying to worry about the whole field, which pretty much reassures me he's not a center fielder. Crawley should have been back as well in position to get an interception, but he was busy worried about the man on the outside. Seems to me like not only are people not doing their jobs, but they're running defenses that don't fit the skill set of the personnel. |
