this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; On top of that, McAllister is hoping to work out a new contract with the team before training camp begins July 29. The rookie contract he signed in 2001 was scheduled to expire after the 2006 season, but the final ...

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
I doubt there will be any holdout with Deuce. We'll get something done soon. He just doesn't seem like the type to put his team in a bad situation. He probably just said a little something to speed up the process.

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
I agree, Papz. While he probably wont holdout, he's not going to throw out that leverage he can have by threatening it, if necessary. But I don't see him as the kind of guy to hold out. However, if they don't get him a new deal before the year is out, I can see him being extremely difficult to re-sign (depending on the market - which was carp for Rbs this year).

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
Deuce did hold out his rookie season, so he is the type to hold out, but i think he really wants to be here so i doubt he will again unless something dont happen.
And he will want top 5 money prob, and i think he deserves it. He's our best player on offense, and a top 5 RB. |

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
Does anyone know Duece's current cap number? It may be possible to sign him to a longer deal and save some money a la Horn.

JK, NFLPA lists his compensation for '05 at $2.3M. I don't know what his cap number is though. Anyone know where to find that? |

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
His signing bonus was $3.8 million, so his cap number should be around $3.2 million. It's possible that a new deal would free up a couple houndred thousand, it may turn out flat.
The Saints are under the cap right now (as far as I know) and somehow I think the roster is pretty much set for the season. So that's not really a concern. The threat of holding out has me a little bit worried though. It may just mean two weeks less time for losing the excess pounds Deuce seems to show up with in recent years. While I'm sure he'll be there when the regular season starts, he also needs training camp. |

RE: Possible Deuce Holdout
If his cap number is close to 4 mil, then there should be no trouble getting him an extention that increases his salary significantly.
I don't think Duece will hold out. If McKenzie didn't, then I don't see Duece doing it. There is a good feeling about this season in the locker room - momentum carried from a good end of last season. I think that helps our chances of resigning all these guys. Of course, it is important to do it now then (instead of after the season starts) in case we start off rocky. |
