Interesting to see the side by side analytical comparisons. On paper we upgraded our #2 CB.

I can't say I'm excited. Can't say I'm disappointed. But something had to be done and Apple definitely qualifies. As. Something...

Crawley: Passer rating 153.8 (wow) and 4 TDs

Apple: Passer rating 100.4 and 1 TDs

What isnt showing up in those stats... Penalties.

Crawley is tied for 1st in PI penalties averaging 10 yards per game.

Apple doesn't even show up and has had only 1 Defensive holding penalty this season averaging 0.7 yards per game.

It's what Payton does. Always tinkering around for small gains. Wins are mostly not convincing so I applaud it. Hope we pick up some more along the way.

Worst case I think we at least now have a good platoon at the CB2 spot. We might still want to play Crawley in certain situations because Crawley might be more physical and tackle better. And actually I think Crawley plays really hard, I don't discredit him because I see him giving good effort but he just doesn't have the natural coverage athleticism Lattimore and other high-end NFL corners have.

33 rec allowed, 1.54 target separation, 7.9 burn rate, 86.8 catch rate, 4 TDs allowed, 3 breakups, -58.8 coverage rating

Eli Apple in 2018:
19 rec allowed, .74 target separation, 3.4 burn rate, 65.5 catch rate, 0 TDs allowed, 4 breakups, +7.4 coverage rating

Going deeper down the stats rabbit hole comparing #Saints corners Eli Apple & Ken Crawley

In 2017, Crawley drew 14 total penalties. 2 were declined, and 3 offset. (so only shows 9 accepted)

Apple in 3 years (2016-2018/30 games) has 14 accepted penalties and 1 declined

To me Eli is not shutdown but he doesn't need to be....he just need to be better than The Crawley
