Bridgewater Insurance only

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; As active as we usually are in free agency there’s no way we’d get a 3rd round comp pick for Bridgewater....

Other than re-signing our own folks, not sure who's out there that would offset us getting a 3rd compensatory pick back unless Herr Guudell puts in the fix...

I am perplexed why you keep pushing this narrative. It is bizarre to me. This is the second such post. Why not just keep it all on the same post.

If TB was just an insurance policy for '18 why would you trade him not even half way through the season, lol. That in and of itself demonstrates that concept as lunacy. You would carry him for the entire season as...insurance.

I don't think we picked up TB as insurance. I think we picked him up because SP saw him as a very ready and real DB replacement. Now that doesn't mean we wouldn't trade him. I think we certainly could do that because we have made so many moves letting go of picks. So if Jacksonville offered a second we'd probably take it. I don't think that was why we sent a third away for him. I think we sent a third because our plan at that time was for him to be the heir.

Unless there is an offer we just can't pass up I think he will be resigned and eventually take over for Drew.

Re: Bridgewater Insurance only

Why would you stay if you are Bridgewater if Drew plays two more years. I wouldn't. He has missed multiple years already. He is 25 why would you risk not starting another game till you turn 27?.

If the Saints told me Drew was retiring after one more year I would stay but two meaning he is what 4 years from playing football each Sunday is ridiculous. He could easy sign a 15-18ml one year deal this off-season and if he looks good he would be getting top QB money a year later. He has little to lose hitting the open market this summer. And knowing the way Loomis and Payton see free agency I would fully expect cap shifted and a big money Signing killing the comp pick

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

That's certainly a consideration.

Re: Bridgewater Insurance only

After the season, I would guess some team with more cap space than draft capital, and needing a starting caliber QB, will offer Bridgewater $15mil or so. I don't know if the Saints will want to pay that much for a back up QB.

They traded a 3rd to get him, if some team offers him that much then they should get a 3rd round compensatory pick. Basically a free insurance policy.

I wouldn't think Teddy would be hanging around for two years as backup he already lost a year with injury. Don't think the NFL market will just let him sit holding a clipboard in New Orleans.
