Saints sign Brandon Marshall

For the second week in a row, the Saints are adding a veteran wide receiver to the roster.

It’s Brandon Marshall this time and he will take the spot that Dez Bryant was expected to fill when he signed with the team last week. Bryant tore his Achilles in practice on Friday, however, and Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that New Orleans got a deal done with Marshall on Monday.

Unlike Bryant, Marshall has played in the NFL this season. He played in seven games with the Seahawks before being released last month. Marshall had 11 catches for 136 yards and a touchdown during his time in Seattle.

The Saints are the seventh team to employ Marshall and none of the other six made it to the playoffs while Marshall was on the team. It would take a pretty major change of fortune for the 8-1 Saints for that streak to continue.

It is about time. What took so long. 18-1

Do any of you thing that Marshal will never make the playoffs because the Saints will cut him with Ted Ginn Jr comes back?

Seahawks are a run 1st team (see Rams game) & sneaky Pete is opted to go with the "youth movement".

I have to admit, I felt better about Dez Bryant than I do about Marshall. However, I have to trust the coaching staff and Brees. They must have seen something in his workout that showed them he can be valuable.

Agreed. I don’t like this move and I can’t really put my finger on why. Just don’t like Brandon Marshall.

For whatever reason, in my mind, it seems to me that BM had a rep of dropping catchable balls. But then again, so did Ted Ginn before he left Carolina. Could also be subconscious, based on the fact that he was NO Brass' second option, after Dez. That in and of itself gives you pause.

I just hope we can hang onto Kirkwood, he looked really good in his debut. I doubt we can hide him on the PS now...

I think he did have something of a streaky reputation early in his career, that seems about right. He also had a bit of a troublemaker rep when he was younger. To his credit though, he worked on both issues and they haven't been a problem for years. The bad attitude was the result of some mental issues, which he has been getting regular treatment and therapy for since several years ago and hasn't had any sort of drama. He's a pretty outspoken advocate for mental health awareness these days. And as far as on the field stuff goes, he's been a dependable pass catcher for the better part of a decade. Don't get me wrong, I'm not super excited about the signing or anything. He's pretty far from his prime, but I don't think you have anything to worry about, aside from whether he can learn the offense and get open.
