Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
We had an off day. Yeah the refs were bad, but they were bad for both sides.
History repeats itself, it appears, with the CowGirls. The positive... 17-2 , WhoDats! |

Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Where do we even start discussing this one??
I’m only going to talk about the positive and give big praise to our defensive front seven. The LB corp of Davis-Anzalone-Klein has really turned into something phenomenal. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
GG to the Cowboys. Was surprised at how good they covered. Saints are going to need to adjust their offense when we aren't playing defenses like the Eagles, Redskins and Falcons that leave wide open spaces. The good news is that now we know where we are vulnerable on offense and have 10 days to correct it.
My cat is acting guilty and I'm thinking he did something to jinx our Saints but no idea what that would be. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Save your all’s breath. Go to Saintsreport and read the 09 after game. Might as well since everything, and I mean everything about this game was identical to 09.

Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Good pressure on Dak. A team that gets 7 sacks should win the game.
Bottled up Zeke for most of the day. 3.3yd/rush is pedestrian for him. Shoddy tackling when Dak ran. He should have been stopped for a short gain every rush. Coverage wasn't where it should have considering we had good pressure today. O-line had their worst game in a very long time. A lot of pressure given up. Brees just looked off the whole game. Seems like we had a lot of drops today from guys who usually catches the ball well. #54 in Dallas had multiple plays where he led with the crown. He should have been ejected from the game. Play calling on O felt predictable. And the gamble to go for it on 4th in the first came back to haunt us. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
That type of loss should give them the needed spark to finish the damn thing.
Makes me sick to hear Aikman gush in the booth over X-team as if he's getting a massage under the table by BJ.. I mean JB. I had no choice but to listen to that BS and it definately didn't help matters none! You can frikkin hear the elation in his voice and I personally don't think it's right for him to be allowed to call their games. I'm no longer home to tune in 870 to listen to Zach and Duece..Phone app goes to **** once the game starts and isn't broadcasted. -Offensive line got handled -Didn't seem Drew was making as many pre-snap reads and adjusting as usual.. -Recievers obviously didn't show up for their hand yoga classes this week. I knew there was a chance for a lost but not like that. 94 was almost a HERO. Hoping we go on a all out demolition mission of who ever stands in the way all the way to the destination... That one stung with all the chances we had to capitalize but couldn't for all the reasons that reared their ugly f**€kin head. WHO-DAT!!! |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Front 7 left it all on the field today...very disappointed in the rest of the team...
|
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Our defense played great. I can't fault the defense at all. They held Dak's crew to 13 pts in their house. You can't ask for much better than that.
The Saints offense had no answer to the pressure the Dallas D was bringing. Brees was rushed and couldn't get a deep pass completed, screens were being defended well, and the ground game wasn't moving the sticks. Dallas defense beat us. period. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
2 weeks in a row our offense didn’t play well.
31 points against ATL is good, but even in that game Drew seemed off. It just feels like he isn’t playing with confidence. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Looked to me like...
Saints offense couldn't match the intensity for 60 minutes. They got punched in the m***** f***** mouth. They weren't doing what they were regularly doin and started to get a little distressed. Cowboys had em where they wanted them. Then the Saints O got their A**es choked out. |

Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Drew was DEFINTELY off. Missed several receivers who had windows but the throws were just not there. There was pressure on the pocket, so I really don't get why SP didn't call a few roll out passes to keep them checked.
Oh well, I always said this team was a 13-3 season. Getting ready for one more stinker before going on our run for Lombardi. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
For sanity's sake, chalk this one up to 'Any Given Thursday':)
Offense was flat, never had a rhythm, and when you play 3 games in 12 days that's bound to happen. The gas tank cant stay full all the time. Run defense showed up and played well, pass defense has been our weakness since week 1, no shocker. We didnt all of a sudden get bad, we are still the same exact team we were yesterday at 7PM. Dallas showed up ready and we didn't. Sh1t happens. We have the Bucs to get ready for in 9 days. :bng: |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Marinelli or whoever was calling the defensive plays had the game of their life. They blitzed at the right times when we weren't expecting it. They chose to be physical with us at all levels and had some penalties because of it but overall it worked. They rarely gave Drew a clean pocket and they were excellent in taking away the flats. Sean and the guys will need to get in the film room and figure out some counters to this style of defense.

Besides the tight ends were kept in to help with pass protection against their pass rush because Payton was determined to pass on them... Kills me when one my draft man-crushes comes back to burn my team... |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Yes the only thing that disappointed me was:
The drops Apple penalties allowing dallas to blitz up the middle. Thats seems to be the blueprint to beating us now. We may have to move Brees a few steps left or right |

Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
I thought the officiating was bad (again) on both sides.
How do you miss all of these targeting/helmet to helmet collisions (Arnold & Kamara) when the zebras are 10 feet away from the play? Again, not using the refs as an excuse but just an observation. |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
hey yall. first time poster, long time saints fan.
if there's one thing you can set your watch to it's that drew and sean will always have one stinker of a game each season. it just happens. if they just have one in them this season, we should consider ourselves blessed. what made this one unique is that this was probably the worst game for every player on our offense sans kirkwood. credit to dallas, our o-line was bad mostly because their front 7 is really good. but skill players had just as bad of a night as brees. i'm hopeful that this will be a big time wake up call for the entire team. Terrible officiating both ways. i feel like that just adds to the weirdness that is these thursday games. away teams are 3-11 in thursday games this year. i get that it's more money and more exposure but its sad that the league won't take into account the input from the people who actually have to play and coach these games. because they seem to really hate them. strap in. it's gonna be a long week. ignoring sports media might be a good move. there are few things they like more than a cowboys win streak. its about to get really obnoxious. the good news is we're back to being doubted. that seems to drive this team more than being on top. sean and drew have now faced another top defense, and there are even more lessons to be learned from this one. |

Inconsequential game for us. I was very happy with our pass rush and disappointed to see Drew's happy feet make an extended appearance this game.
Next game. |

- Out coached.
- Out played. - Out hustled. - Straight punched in the mouth. - Cowboys peaking. - Saints flat. - In the end, hopefully a good thing. |

Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Ok, phew! Feels good to get that out!
The good news is that the Saints offense played the worst game of the season, but the defense kept us in it, and in the end, only lost by 3 points. Refs were terrible on both sides, no excuse for the loss, but it is hard to watch bad calls that stop the flow of the game and no calls that risk player safety. They showed some footage of the Saints bench before the game, and even then it looked like the energy was very low. I was immediately worried when I saw that. Not sure what that was all about. Maybe back to back Thursday night games? Our front 7 played lights out! What was with all the drops? Drew wasn't his usual, pinpoint accurate self, but plenty of balls hit receivers in the hands and just bounced out. Reminded me of A. Brooks at times. I just hope we don't have any major injuries. The team should bounce back from this and use it as motivation. 17-2 Superbowl Champions :bng::bng::bng: |
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
yeah its was good to see we still had a fighting chance to win but then a blitz up the middle and a bad pass from Brees... ugh.
|
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
I guess the good news is now they have 10 days to get refreshed and stew in this loss to come out with something to prove against Tampa.
|
Re: Observations from the Saints first loss in 11 games
Before the game there was a piece about Peyton showing the team a 10 minute video on how great Brees is. Not sure that was a bright Idea.
https://www.foxsports.com/nfl/video/1384290883609 During the game last night it sure looked like the O-line may have taken exception and reminded Peyton that Brees is only as good as they let him be....and that was pretty sad. So, four games left with three against pretty stout defenses. Somebody needs to come up with a better game plan because Pittsburgh and Carolina are going to wear the Dallas - Saints game video out. |
