Where this team needs to improve

Hello board. I'm new here and thought I'd try to break the ice by getting a read on what everyone here thinks are areas where this team should focus on improving as we get into the final leg of this regular season / playoff push. These are mine:

- Interior protection: As was mentioned several times during the broadcast, brees is magic when he can step into his throws. when he can't, there's that possibility he's going to struggle like he did last night. I would love to see unger, peat and warford really make a statement over the next few weeks and show everyone our numbers aren't a fluke.

- Secondary adjustments: eli apple definitely seems like an improvement over crawley. he's not a world beater, but until last night he did what we needed. play decent coverage, don't give up anything big over the top, make sound tackles and DON'T EXTEND DRIVES WITH PENALTIES. i for one did not like the way this game was officiated, but i'd like to see him and pj adjust quicker when they get flagged early.

- Keep linemen on the line: This really bothers me. I give dennis allen grief because i think he's bad with scripted drives, and he sometimes seems like he's doing too much. most of it i can forgive but when we're dropping cam jordan and rankins into coverage, really, what is the point? sheldon has turned into one of my favorite players on this team. but let's be real. if rankins is trailing a receiver and they catch a pass, it's gonna be a shoestring tackle or they are taking off. it just doesn't make sense to me. show blitz then drop safeties/LBs into coverage. when our linemen aren't playing their position, the QB has too much time to throw. and there lies the flaw. the longer a receiver has to get open the more likely they are to make a catch. having the heaviest guys on your roster chase them around the field is a recipe for disaster.

- Don't get one dimensional: we've come back from deficits this season when we continue to play our game straight up. regardless of the score, we need to dictate the tempo and always aim to keep defenses on their heels.

Let me know what you think we should focus on. Glad to have somewhere to cut it up with fellow fans WHO DAT!

Re: Where this team needs to improve

Welcome to the board yungbreesus! Really good post. I can tell you’re going to be a good contributor here.

Regarding dropping D-Linemen into coverage, it’s stood out a couple of times in recent games and always makes me scratch my head. Last night, 3rd and long, Cam Jordan lines up as an off-the-ball LB and drops into coverage. Prescott easily runs for the first down. In last week’s game against the Falcons I noticed Marcus Davenport on one play lined up the same way and covering a WR down the seam.

I can’t judge too harshly though because this is the best defensive front seven we’ve had in a long time and they’re really clicking. Sometimes I just wonder if all the credit should go to the position coaches Ryan Nielsen and Mike Nolan and is Dennis Allen’s playcalling the weakness.

"When you get into one of these groups, there's only a couple of ways you can get out. One, is death; the other, is mental institutions."

thanks for the warm welcome. yeah when i saw cam slide over i was like ok what is going on here then when he started back pedaling i actually got a little sick to my stomach. feels like a classic "overthink" kind of move.
