How Broncos' trade for Joe Flacco impacts Teddy Bridgewater

By: John Sigler

The Denver Broncos reached an agreement with the Baltimore Ravens to trade for quarterback Joe Flacco, as first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN. This is bad news for New Orleans Saints backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is set to become a free agent when the new league fiscal year begins on March 13. Bridgewater wants to be a starter in the NFL, and he deserves to be one. But the Broncos just took one starting job off the market.

There is no doubt Teddy will have opportunities out there.

Minnesota may be trying to rid themselves of Kirk Cousins - reunion?

Dolphins would love to get some Karma back their way after, pardon the pun, passing on Brees...

And the Jaguars are very nearly built to win now - they just need a quarterback and another receiver (Antonio Brown?)...

Drew still has a couple of years left after his arm strength drops. He could manage a game for quite some time with a good O-line and a good running game. We need to find his successor soon.....but not right now!

Hell, he could still play Old Boys rugby!

For the love of God let him go. Drew will be around another year or two. Draft Lock in Round 2 and save the money teddy would want to upgrade TE, WR and CB

Teddy will be just fine....he will have several opportunities. Some better than others, but some opportunities none the less.

I don't think Bridgewater is all that special and I've never understood the hang up with our fan base thinking he is going to be our Steve Young. He was a rental at backup, an insurance warranty in case Brees went down. We went all in this year trying to get a ring. The only thing we couldn't have predicted was our WR corps failing us. We were just a 2nd reliable WR away from winning a Super Bowl.

If teams really wanted Bridgewater that bad, I think he would've got some serious offers and wouldn't have ended up as a backup with us. The 2014 QB draft class wasn't all that special. Only Derek Carr amounted to anything from that class and it only took Gruden one season to ruin him.

Given what Minnesota paid for Kirk Cousins, I don't think they'll move on yet. IMO the Vikings have more problems with Zimmer as a whole. He is about to be on his 5th OC. Cousins may be overrated, but I really think their problems as a whole are with Zimmer and this team won't peak again like they did in 2017.

If reports are true in Miami, they are tanking next year to go all in for drafting a QB in 2020. Miami is seriously a mess and were incredibly lucky to be 7-9 going by DVOA. Last year's Dolphins broke franchise records for how terrible their offense was and overall defensive performance, posting even worse statistics than the 1-15 team from 2007. I like them hiring Flores, but that whole team is such a mess it's going to take a long term plan to fix them up.

The Jaguars are definitely not built to win now. They had the #2 ranked easiest SOS in 2017 and yet barely went 10-6 with that ridiculously easy cupcake schedule. They were the most overrated team going into 2018 and people in general love to hype up anyone who can play the Patriots tough and beat them. The Dolphins splitting with the Pats yearly is the only reason people overlook what a dysfunctional mess that team is.

Everyone loves to moan and complain about the Patriots playing in the AFC East, blaming that on their success but the AFC South has been the most pathetic division in the NFL since 2002. Jacksonville couldn't even dominate that division in 2017 the year the best QB in the division was Mariota. Just look at the Colts when they tanked in 2011, drafted Luck and immediately went 11-5 the next year with the worst point differential of a division winning team in NFL history. That's a testament to how god awful the AFC South is, but we'll never hear about it. No one talked about how much of a dumpster fire that division was when Manning and the Colts would steamroll through it and go one and done in the playoffs. People will do circles complaining about the AFC East despite the fact New England dominates the whole NFL and not just the Jets, Dolphins and Bills. Unlike those Colts teams who went one and done, the Pats at least reach the conference title game.

The Jags had a relatively more difficult schedule this past year and as a result, they looked like the mediocre team they really are. I don't think they are going back to the playoffs any time soon. The Colts are in great position to re-take the AFC South crown. They finally have a competent coach and have built an o-line around Luck. If their defense makes another step up this year and if they add a few missing pieces, I think Indy is the team to watch for in that division.

Call me crazy but I didn’t see anything from Teddy that convinces me he’s ready to be a starting QB deserving of a large contract.
