Re: Bad Relationship Between Saints and NFL Will Get Worse in 2019
I fully believe that Goodell wants to have some ability to impact outcomes of games. I think he is intentionally turning a blind eye to fixing some key problems with the NFL if they provide him with the opportunity to increase competitiveness in key games. Competitiveness equals more viewership, which in turn equals more advertising and more potential for increased TV revenues. The NFL is all about the money. They will play games on the moon if it meant more money and every night of the week if they could, regardless of player safety. They would kill players for more money (and they have). They will only make changes for the better if they are financially impacted to do so.
I truly believe the NFL has mandated referees to call games with the intention of keeping them close. If one team is pulling away they get penalized or victimized by non-calls. Whistles go to the other team to keep viewers watching. I'm hesitant to say he is scripting outcomes, but he is for sure using officiating or lack thereof to ensure games stay close and viewers stay tuned in. |
