Could Saints lose Teddy Bridgewater? Dolphins plan to meet with QB

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I think that with bridgewater long term, we would be a 500-ish team like the titans, bengals, or redskins have been lately, or the chiefs before maholmes? Is that relevent? Sure. But it will never win a championship and it ...

I think that with bridgewater long term, we would be a 500-ish team like the titans, bengals, or redskins have been lately, or the chiefs before maholmes? Is that relevent? Sure. But it will never win a championship and it will keep us from getting high picks. I would rather tank than be the titans. If we pick the wrong qb or pick in a bad year we can start again.

The 6 million or whatever it will cost for bridgewater, we can add a player to help brees win now. Calls aside, if we had added an extra TE or receiver or oline instead of bridgewater, we might have had a ring the refs could not take away so easily. If brees retires or something, and we do want to go 9-7, we can find 9-7 style qbs on the free agent market then, when the money can no longer be spent to help brees. Bridgewater was a free agent twice. Cousins, foles, bortles, tannehill, etc have been out there. Flacco and keenum. Keenum was better on the vikings than bridgewater. If payton is a qb genius he can find some qb when he needs to. We dont need a high priced backup now. Plus i dont care if bridgewater is 26, he has a very very bad injury in his history. Breaux was young too, it did not matter. A 2 year leg injury seems like a big deal. Bridgewater being hesitant to take a starting gig tells me he may not have full confidence in his leg and may rather take smaller checks and nit bet on the leg.

Teddy took a far less talented Vikings team to the playoffs, he could most certainly help us get to the playoffs. And I will reiterate that it's not as simple as just waiting for the next draft to roll around so you can pick your QB of the future. Look at how many first round picks the Browns have wasted on QB's before finally getting Mayfield. And look at how chaotic that whole franchise has been for almost 2 decades as a result. QB's make or break teams.

Spending money on Teddy doesn't stop them from adding pieces to help us win now. They've found ways to do it for years now. And I don't want to see us go all in for the present at the expense of the future, that would be foolish.

Teddy's injury is a thing of the distant past, and I dont buy into the idea that he's reluctant to be a starter because of it. I think he recognizes the opportunity here to take over an established and winning franchise with a high powered offense. He isnt elite, but I absolutely believe he's better than all those guys you listed. Some here have made way too big of a deal out of his start against Carolina. Yeah it wasnt pretty, but the whole team played like ass that day, including our entire starting defense against a rookie 3rd string QB. Those games happen, it's an anomaly. You learn whatever you can from it and move on. We'd be much better off with Teddy than without him.
