Hakim vs. Morton
Don't you think Morton would have been a better signing than Hakim? We need a guy with good hands and good speed... so why did we sign Hakim? The price difference couldn't have been much. There were other options out there better than Hakim... look at the guy's career stats. Do you actually think he can fill the void Pathon left? Don't ya think Poole is a better option at 3 than Hakim? In my opinion, we should have went after Morton or Tai Streets instead... both whom fit the number 3 bill better than Hakim.

RE: Hakim vs. Morton
For whatever reason, the Saints LOVE skinny little WR, usually who have blazing speed, who are supposed to be "game breakers." Devery, Lewis, and Hakim are all basically the same guy. Stallworth is those guy with slightly more size. Pathon was those guys with slightly less speed, but slightly better hands and more fearless. Joe Horn, when he had any speed left, was that type of WR. Little, fast, can take it to the house on any given play. That's what a WR is to the Saints.

Nevermind... Hakim is only getting 50 grand about the NFL minimum which is... $715,000. That pretty much means he's cuttable if he doesn't perform well in camp.

What ever happened to Nathan Black. That kid caught every pass thrown at him last preseason. Is he still with the team in some capacity or is he gone?

Oddly enough, I never even knew he played football until a year or so after that, since he redshirted his first year. He wound up being a really good WR at NSU, but I had no clue he'd ever wind up actually playing in the NFL. Hopefully the Redskins will give him the "big break" he needs. I only spoke to him a handful of times, but he always seemed like a nice guy......and I never remember hearing anything negative about him from anyone else. He was sociable, but never really a "loud mouth" or anything. It's a shame the Saints are so stacked at WR....because I'd love to see him as a 6th WR. I will give him credit for hanging around since 2002.....he started with Carolina, went to New Orleans, and is now in Washington. Some guys don't get to have 1 solid year on a practice squad, much less 3 or 4. Anyway, to agree with what a few of you were saying, I loved watching him last preseason also. I only remember him dropping 1 pass, in the Green Bay game (he made a really nice deep catch in that same game, though). I just hope he can hang around and make a decent enough career in the cut-throat NFL. |
