UDFA Lil'Jordan Humphrey WR - Texas

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Didn't do well at the combine but was an unbelievable WR at Texas. Put the ball near him and he gets it. This highlight real will remind you of two WRs that have been great with the Saints. Crap... did ...

Crap... did I post this and there is another tread? Not the first screwed up thing I did.

Question... What do you think of his talent in this video?

He catches the ball exactly like Michael Thomas and Marques Colston. The only reason he wasn't drafted is he ran a 4.67 at the combine. Other than that, he looks super. Could possibly be our 5th WR because he might could play special teams.

He was a two-time all-state pick and Offensive Player of the Year in District 7-6A as a senior (184-1,292-7.2, 14 TD rushing; 57-876-15.4, 8 TD receiving). Texas coaches saw his 6-4 frame and moved him to receiver immediately; he played in 10 games as a reserve and on special teams (2-15-7.5 receiving). Humphrey was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection as a sophomore, starting 6 of 12 games played (37-431-11.6, one TD receiving; 6-41-6.8, one TD rushing). League coaches voted him honorable mention all-conference in 2018, as he started 12 of 14 games and led the Longhorns with 86 receptions, 1,176 receiving yards (13.7 average) and nine touchdown receptions.

Jordan has to be flawless at camp. IMO he needs another year to develop (practice squad). Big 12 corners are a lot different than what he'll face at this level of football in the slot. Meredith, Dural, Simmie Cobbs & Emmanuel Butler are in his way.

Good luck.

Re: UDFA Lil'Jordan Humphrey WR - Texas

My first thought was that he looked like a TE that could run but he's more than that. Sean Payton looks like he has another big WR that's not fast but knows all the routes and can catch and he's knows how to run like a RB. He's a lot of fun to watch. I like that he's hard to tackle and always falls forward.

I'm no expert but it looks like he has a few coachable flaws. For example he stumbled a couple of times during his high light reel and the ball slid in his hands during the catch. He didn't look comfortable on artificial grass and that is one time I saw him stumble. He's the kind of receiver Sean Payton likes because he's versatile and he has high energy it looks like. I can't wait to see him in camp.

As a Longhorns fan I saw my share of games and Lil'Jordan may have what it takes. I think we need to keep him at slot receiver because he is so nimble particularly for his size and can pick up extra yardage. He will need to improve his route running because the windows and coverage will be a lot tighter in the NFL.

Exactly... just like a TE. Can't wait to see the Saints take advantage of his size for Endzone TDs.

Brees accuracy can put lipstick on some of it but not all. He will have run clean routes and get separation. He can't do it with speed and can't do it with strength (right now). Not sure if there is enough time to close the gap. I see him getting cut and added throughout the season and maybe enter some games late in the season.
