You know who I am really sick of?

PJ Williams.

The guy celebrates when he knocks people out of bounds and then blows coverage after coverage.

The bad defense was more a result of not having and DTs... which meant we had to blitz more to get pressure.

It was a bad gameplan by the D... you shouldn’t blitz Watson, but DA felt like he needed to.

I wish P-Rob was healthy.

Nah it was definitely PJ Williams. #26.

Latt was on Hopkins.

We had 5 or six sacks not a bad nite

It takes DA a half a season to get it rite

Yeah I think Onyemata will close the gaps that Watson was escaping from and stop the early runs

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

This game also shows that Sean needs to change his preseason routine of letting the 1st string offense barely get any snaps. That's why they looked flat at the start. Same with the Defense. They need more snaps in the preseason.

Yep. It was PJ. PJ looked like he was supposed to help Lattimore on that Hopkins slant for a TD too.

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

Unbelievable game. We need Onyemata back. Run D must improve. Lack of pass rush forced us to blitz too much. Hendrickson played better than Davenport. Dennis Allen again with this 3rd defense...

Offense was very good. Murray will get more touches vs other opponents. We saw glimpses off Jarred Cook potential in saints offense. He should be able to dominate with Sean Payton play calling.

Yeah, Wil Lutz is the man!

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

We beat a legit playoff team out of the AFC. There’s room for improvement but I’m just happy we got the win. I’m pleased with the Kamara/Murray backfield and of course with Mike.

I expect a little more from Lattimore even if Hopkins is the best of the best at the position. Make those catches a little harder to reel in. If he pulls them down in traffic then oh well, but I expect a little better positioning. Tough sledding for an opening night game.

6 sacks though? Love that.

The defensive back play is so disappointing not because of Hopkins that’s a given it’s the techn . The tackling , out of place in crucial spots it’s bs to me,

Saw a replay of that Marcus Williams INT ...

He covered over 30 yards to go get it. That was pretty impressive to me.

This is what he did extremely well in college.

Beat a playoff team without Rankins and ony. Get those 2 back the middle of d vastly improves where we were getting gashed tonight.

Davenport no longer the starter? I only don't like it because it speaks to lack of trust IMO by the coaches. If he isn't starting by week 4 he's officially a bust.

Glad it ended the way it did OT would have taken its toll on team steam it worked out 1-0 baby

A bit premature for that label.

Saints coaching staff will continue to get him snaps. Especially considering what they gave up to get him.

Saints had 6 sacks tonight. Two I know for sure were a result of Davenport pushing the pocket and Trey cleaning it up.

In Davenports defense they were showing tunsel dominating him but damm he repeatedly jamming his hand to his throat and face mask may have took a finger to the eye. Anyone else see that?

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

I don't know how you guys can be negative. We looked fairly sharp on offense, especially in the 4th. We got 6 sacks all while being short handed up front on defense. This is game one. We're not a fine tuned machine yet.

I'm pleased as pudding and looking forward to the season. Tonight was fantastic. A great win!

You know, Loewen and Shy played pretty impressively tonight...

Know everyone is focused on Loewen's over-aggressiveness that negated the INT in the endzone, but he also made several plays where he ran down running backs on the other side...

And I really hope we don't have to cut Shy or Loewen when Ony comes back next week, but we're gonna be cutting loose a real good player...

If PJ keeps running on the slant it’s a INT.

I would say he is not elite, YET. He sure has the talent to be elite and I think he looked good yesterday.

They showed 1 clip of Tunsil stoning Davenport, that’s after Tunsil poked him in the eye. A lot of what Marcus did won’t show up on the stat sheet. I saw a guy that put Tunsil in Watson’s Lap numerous times, allowing other guys to get those sacks.

Hear hear! I have no major complaints on Davenports performance. Some issue with contain but that happened all across the board.

Precisely.

Davenport didn't get there but he made life easier for others to lay hands on Watson.

He was pretty good in coverage after that first long catch but sure missed a lot of tackles that led to big yardage though on runs and a few pass plays. Hopefully he gets better.

PJ Williams didn’t have a terrible game considering that the Texans have some pretty good slot WRs. Once again, he was good in short areas but doesn’t have long speed. Be also made some big tackles. Even on that pass to Stills he wasn’t beat bad, it was a great pass but a bad coverage call for the situation.

That slant that Lattimore got beat on wasn’t either CBs fault, it was a nice pass through a hole in zone coverage. If anything it was Anazlone’s fault because he decided to pickup a WR running a drag in man coverage leaving the middle open.

Defense definitely needs some work but I didn’t expect them to shut down the Texans offense. 1-0 is all that matters and we are a game up on the entire division!

Was it Tampa last season 1st game torching us deep . Somebody studied our Dbacks to a tee. Our tendencies in certain formations will get us beat early and late. It worked out this one.

I think a lot of teams will be rethinking the preseason strategy after this week. Most teams looked very rusty. I understand the "injury" angle, but even veterans need some work prior to the season starting. Big difference between practise/scrimmage and a real game.

rezburna 09-10-2019 09:37 AM

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

I don’t think we looked rusty. I think we played a legit contender with a superstar QB and the best WR in football.

jeanpierre 09-10-2019 09:42 AM

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

We definitely came out rusty, disjointed, with no fluidity, flow to the offense...

Did it get better? Of course it did? But we need more first team snaps as a unit before a trap game like the Texans...

K Major 09-10-2019 09:48 AM

Re: Texans @ Saints MNF Game Day Thread

Texans were 11-5 last year.

As Rez previously stated, they are legit team.

Nice win for the Saints.
