I think Teddy will play well. But, if Brees told me he was ready next week, even if his reasoning was he had taught himself to throw left handed, he would be back under center.

Brees giving Teddy space was the right move. Teddy needed to feel like he was the person in charge directing things. If Drew hung over his shoulder on everything, it may restrict Teddy's ability to think for himself. No two QBs should ever view the field in the exact same way, cause no two QBs are comfortable with the same things. Just look at what happened with the Eagles when Wentz was injured v.s. when Wentz played. Foles threw to Alshon Jefferies more than any other player on the roster... made him look like a pro-bowler, whereas Wentz doesn't take advantage of him nearly as much and Jefferies just looks like another person on the roster. Guys look at things much differently, and Brees trying to force Teddy into seeing things the way he does could be detrimental.

I was surprised that Brees wasn't settling him down then I asked myself if thats really a fair expectation? It carries a lot of assumptions.

It assumes that Teddy is open and we do not know that, he is in his 5th year in the league and pretty much ran his own show for two of them.

Its easy to say that Drew should have gone to Teddy but they are both grown men. If you were Teddy, would you have gone to Drew?

Considering we have a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Offensive Coordinator, a QB coach and TWO offensive assistants who's job it is to make players ready Drew would have had to take a number.

Then there is the question of other than possibly settling him down, what is Drew going to tell another starting QB?? Dont f*&k up?

As far as Drew only interested in building his legacy... As far as I know he has always worked with the other QBs on the team. Also because they look exactly the same its rather easy to say Drew is working on his stats and not the teams, but is it accurate....

Bobby Hebert was talking about this the other day because he had been in the same situation. He said that the starting QB would usually not approach the backup but if the back up were to approach him with questions then the starting Qb would step in with guidance. The backup already has coaches, coordinators, etc to work with him during the game and too much input could be counterproductive. I’m sure Brees will work with him during the week and during the game this Sunday.
