We should now have approximately 4.6MM in cap space...

That's all the room on your card, who are you buying? How are you structuring the deal?

It's either a WR or CB. I'm thinking CB because we are so very weak on the back end.

$12.5m cap hit this season.
$14.5m in 2020
$15M in 2021 and 2022
$12M in 2023

I just don't see the Saints trying to pull that off with Diggs. He's way too expensive.

SaintsfaninATLHell feel free to check my math and correct me on this one.

We wouldn't be responsible for his pro-rated signing bonus, which is probably a huge portion of his cap figure

Is this my job now? I just look on Spotrac which has all current NFL contracts on it. I believe the Saints would be responsible for the base salary and not for the signing bonus, which would become dead money on the Vikings cap. So it's not as high as you have listed, but with base salaries above $10 million, it'll still be painful to try to carry Diggs.

I ask for your assistance on anything cap related. You provide great insight here over the years .

I guess someone has to do it as most folks just want to treat the NFL like it's fantasy football. Choosing players solely on talent without understanding the cap implications leads to poor choices.

The contract can be restructured by converting the base to yet another signing bonus. It can easily be brought down inside the current cap. It would mean guarantying more and possibly pushing it out past 2023.
