Sean Payton needs to be better with this offense

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; No sense in us not calling a timeout with 29 seconds left at the Dallas 10 before the end of the first half. That ain't Brees running a well oiled machine. It's Bridgewater and nobody knew what the next play ...

That ain't Brees running a well oiled machine. It's Bridgewater and nobody knew what the next play was. Come on Sean, you're better than that. Potentially cost us a TD.

Then the Bridgewater sack to take us out of FG range. In no way imaginable is that acceptable that you called a play that could get your indecisive QB sacked.

The defense saved you tonight.

12 points ain't beating Tampa next week.

Let's go Sean. I know you can do it.

Re: Sean Payton needs to be better with this offense

I failed to mention another just totally unforced error on Payton's part.

We snapped the ball with 5 seconds on the play clock at the 2:48 mark. Do the math. If you wait until it's down to 1 second to snap it at 2:44. A play ran takes minimum 5 seconds before the play clock starts. Well we ended up with a nearly 3 second differential. That saved Dallas from using one of their timeouts. Ultimately that would have meant they had only 59 seconds instead of a 1:39 on that last drive.

Again that kind of egregious error cannot continue to happen. Sean has to be better than that.

And that changes everything. You play for the FG, Teddy never goes back to pass because you know Dallas will be left with 59 seconds left, no timeouts and needing a TD to win.

Thank you defense for saving Payton.

I still think Taysom would be better and get the offense movie, but we are winning. Teddy doesn't take enough risks, stares down receivers too much and is incredibly slow in his progressions. Teddy only has been throwing to guys that are wide open. It's like he is hesitant even when there is a decent window. As long as we keep winning, I'm fine, but I'm worried that it's eventually going to bite us in the ass.

I'm not sure why Hill is being played so little. Less than when Brees was playing since the start of last season.

It's like Payton is concerned that subbing in Hill will disrupt the continuity for Bridgewater, and maybe that would be the case.

Ugh because he's our backup QB now if something happens to Teddy, we need him healthy. Can't risk losing him

Some nuggets of truth in here. However we have seen our team only put up 10 points against Cowboys D even with Brees. We lost twice to Dallas with cowboys DE killing our potential game winning drive. They actually did it to us twice this game on our last two drives like they have done to us before. Give it to the cowboys D for matching up against us and less on TB and Payton.

Pretty much everything your calling out comes down to teddy not managing the clock... not sure if you understand just how much ownership the QB has in clock management
AsylumGuido and K Major like this.

This. The coach doesn't dictate when the ball is snapped. That is on the QB.
