Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

It was an ugly win... But it is still a win.

Check Down Betty showed up today.

Should have run Murray more.

On to next week.

Teddy isn't undefeated... the SAINTS TEAM is UNDEFEATED... Teddy isn't screwing up the offense... but to say Teddy is the reason... that is just PLAIN STUPID.

If he doesn't get rid of the ball quicker Mack will have a field day

Defense is balling. I don't care, we're 5-0 in games decided by 8 points or less. The ONLY team this year with that record so far. We are winning in the clutch and that's all that matters to me.

Teddy made some good plays, but he made more bad than good. Looked afraid to throw deep again.

Checking down to an injured Kamara.

I lost my mind when he wouldnt throw the flea flicker pass, looked like he had a guy wide open.

Defense is for real though.

Hill wasn’t open. Safety was over the top. What people seem to want is for Teddy throw interceptions, because that’s exactly what’s going to happen with him forcing passes that aren’t there. He’s not Brees. He won’t ever be Brees. However, he’s not causing us to lose games.

People obviously dont want him to throw picks and thats fine if there was a safety over the top for him to not throw that ball. However, his read progression is incredibly slow, so slow that on a 3rd and 5 he literally took the snap and checked down to a double covered Kamara immediately.

It is undoubtedly slow, but the let’s not pretend Brees hasn’t had games like this (worse games actually) in a losing effort.

Yeah, we usually lose the games where we fail to score less 17 points. So far this season, we've won 2 low scoring affairs and I'm happy with that.

Teddy threw a lot of baaaddd passes today. Throws that could have kept drives alive and points on the board.

It looks like Teddy is playing not to lose. Whether thats on Payton or TB, we don't know.

Our defense is looking about as close to elite as you can get.

Murray and Cook looked good today.

That's a great observation - and at this point it testifies to how talented this team is and justifies fan expectations for success this year...

I think if anybody was still harboring thoughts that TB was the heir apparent you just had a hard slap of reality today. The man was scared and throwing the ball all over with little control today. He could not read the defense and went to his safety valves MT AK and seldom looked any place else. He looked absolutely zoned out on the bench. Sure he did not lose the game but Murray and Cook and Thomas carried the offense today when it counted.

Michael Thomas and Kamara have been carrying the offense since last year even with Brees in the line up. There’s a reason we have been looking for help at receiver. The running game was non existent for most of the contest and we were playing a good defense.

Disagree with most of this.

He didn't look scared.

How do you know he couldn't read the defense? You already looked at your all-22?

He looked at other options before checking down most of the game.

He din't look "zoned out" on the bench. They showed him on the bench 1 time.

He din't have a good game, but some of you guys...

Off topic ... stats says the Saints rank 19th defensively??

The last 3 weeks I see an ELiTE defense that's hard to run and pass on.

Just ask Gurley, Zeke, Fournette etc.

I think we gave up tons in the first 2 games.

Final stats on Teddy B...

240 yards passing/ 0 INT / 94.7 rating /66 yard completion %.

Sure there was some bad throws today but ^^^ this is not losing football.

Mmmm, somewhat. But not being able to capitalize on some easy opportunities won't glare in the stat sheets, but will contribute to not winning the game as well - one play and we're coming home with a loss...

Payton doesn't have a lot of options right now. The team has gone out of it's way to gush over Teddy (which smells of fragile psyche to me and they're trying to build his confidence)...

If Payton goes to Taysom, Teddy's confidence collapses and then he's not an option if Taysom doesn't work out or is injured...

We're in it with Teddy until the Return of the Passing King...

Re: Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

Why the gushing over TB? I mean I don’t have a problem giving him credit for not turning the ball over, that’s part of the job. But you have to be able to throw the ball and trust that your WRs are pros too.

But gushing? No gushing. I’m not gonna sit here and be the dilly dilly guy

I don't see anyone gushing over Teddy. Did I miss something?

At the end of the day JP, the Saints WON. Teddy did enough to get the job done and that's all that matters.

The hell is wrong with people?

We just won a game where we scored 13 points, and all the talk is about how Bridgewater didn't impress you....

Reminder, we WON, and are 5-0 in games decided by a touchdown or less. The ONLY team in the league this year with that kind of clutch stat on wins.

Re: Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

At least we're not the team that scored 30+ points today with their QB putting up big numbers and lost.

Or the Chiefs with QB Fancy Pass and his big numbers and still losing games.

I'll take the ugly 13-6 win any day over all the losses we would accumulate where the offense scored tons of points and the defense failed to do anything.

I'll take this any day over the 2014, 2015, and 2016 years where we all watched Brees light up the stat sheet with Dan Marino-esque numbers, only for us to lose cause the defense gave up 30-40 points.

A win is a win.

Re: Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

Some people just want TH in there.

Teddy, at times holds the ball too long. Teddy made a couple of bad throws today. Teddy was checking down a lot today because they were getting pressure rushing just 3 and 4 guys. They were dropping a lot into coverage. I have seen that same thing done to Drew in the past, in terms of a team getting pressure with their front and dropping everyone else back. Hard to pass against that.

Teddy didn't have a great day and he is not Drew, who the hell is? He is a hall of fame QB and possibly the best ever at his position.

Teddy doesn't turn the ball over. That's huge right now.

Then what? In four games Teddy only did enough to win one game. All the other games were won by the defense and special teams. All Teddy did was just not screw it up.

Tired of hearing about Brees. Teddy is our QB. We are winning. Nothing else matters. We don't need Brees. I know this is hard for people to accept but we do not need him. I'm have empathy for Brees but end of the day we can win without him. Not that hard.

Re: Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

Dennis Allen has got this D playing so well. This team is so talented, TB being a game manager is just fine to get a win. Its ugly and frustrating at time sure but at the end of the day, a win is a win and this team is 5-1. We have been so use to Drew and this O scoring at will and our defense letting us down, some of us our having a hard time watching a defensive strugle and us coming out on top. Hell just saying we won on defense is so strange to say lol. Geaux Saints.......

You know what? Brees wasn’t looking that great either since halfway through last season. Yes, Brees is a Hall of Famer and one of the greatest to ever do it, but our offense has struggled with Brees too.

We're going to be an unbearable fanbase when Brees retires.

If we're acting this way over Teddy while we're 4-0 with him, lord help the poor soul that has to be the starter after Brees is done.

We've been spoiled rotten for years having a HoFer. Colts fans acted just like this when Manning was gone and they had Luck. Patriots fans will be no different.

Trent Dilfer won a superbowl playing the way Bridgewater is doing right now. I can't complain a bit with a win. Tampa's D won most of those games like our's is doing now. I'll take it.

WillMacKenzie 10-13-2019 07:25 PM

Re: Observations from the Saints win vs Jaguars

Ain’t gonna be a lot of winning having to hold NFL teams to single digits every week.

Doesn’t take a genius to connect the dots. Give Taysom a shot, if he’s worse than Teddy, then we’re screwed regardless after Brees leaves.
