As far as I'm concerned we don't have Brees' successor on our current roster. I would be shocked if he retires prior to the 2021 season. He still loves the game, can still perform at a higher level than Teddy and most all of the NFL starters, and wants those lifetime records as a legacy.

Teddy isn't spectacular, but I disagree. I don't think we have won in spite of him. I think he has played pretty smart given the situation. Teddy has done, I think, exactly what he has been asked to do.

Yes, I cannot disagree with any of that, but that does not mean that he can hang around on our roster long enough to be our next full-time starter.

How long do you guys think we have with Brees? He declined pretty hard last year and we really don't know how good he's going to be coming back from this injury. Teddy could seriously be our future.

I don't see Brees, Brady, Rodgers or whoever playing into their mid 40s. Brady is a corpse of his former self, looking a lot like 2015 Peyton Manning. THAT is what I dread the longer Brees carries on. These guys decline eventually with age. It just happens.

Seriously?

Sean has proven to me he can win without drew. For a while i thought they went hand and hand. Im not saying drew should retire or teddy be full time starter but the fact is drew will get to a peyton manning point sooner than later, it happens to everyone. The mind is willing but the body says no. But if not teddy we need to look for a replacement in the near future.

Peyton Manning got to the "peyton manning point" because he suffered a serious neck injury. We're talking apples and oranges. Manning and Brees are nothing alike in physicality. Totally different body types. His body is no where close to saying "no", especially with his commitment to staying fit.

Lately I can’t help but think about something... would we have won these last five games if Brees wasn’t injured? I know it sounds crazy, and I don’t mean it as a slight to Brees in any way, but you never know how differently things could have shaken out. Would the defense have stepped up the way they have if Brees was there to bail the team out? We’ll never know.

I can see where you are coming from, and I cannot disagree again. Sometimes thing just happen to work out.

I like TB and I wouldn't care if we signed him long term but if I can have Brees 3 or 4 more more years its not even a choice IMO.

I agree totally. The one thing Teddy has done well so far is protect the ball. Drew has had seasons and games where his INT’s have dug us in holes.
I go back to the Dallas game last season, does Teddy throw that pick to end the game. He’s done a good job so far not giving opponents additional opportunities.

Totally agree. And what many do not realize is that Brees' importance to our success far exceeds his play on the field. He is a vital emotional element to our success. Anyone hoping to move on from Brees before he decides to move on himself is delusional.
