Bye Bye Rodgers...
Saints release linebacker Rodgers
The Saints released linebacker Derrick Rodgers on Friday, ending his two-year relationship with the team. Rodgers, who experienced a season-ending back injury last November, was waived injured, which entitles him to an injury benefit. An eight-year veteran, he had surgery in February to repair a bulging disc in his back, but he was not healthy enough to compete in offseason practice sessions. The team did not think he would be ready for training camp, which begins Friday. |

Again I ask, where is the "they signed a contract, they should honor it crowd?"
Oh by the way, this was a good move. |

I doubt it... we re-signed him this offseason. He'll provide good depth and insurance should James Allen regress. I think Allen will continue to improve. He has the size and speed teams want and just needs to provide some consistency. Hodge probably will come in on third down passing situations and be a solid special teams contributor.

Well if they don't meet expectaions on the playing field then it should be considered breech of contract and the team can release the player. I think there is going to be a change in the system they way its heading... where you take the teams cap and just divide it up due to performance but then that'll open a can of worms... "I did better than so and so".

Thus, the team is honoring the contract. And, yes, good move. |
