Observations from the Saints win over the Falcons

1. Davenport ended last game on a great note and started this game the same way with a great sack. 2 sacks, 4 tackles (one for a loss) and 2 forced fumbles might be his best statline from a game so far.

2. Trequan Smith with some great blocking again early in the game. I never heard was his injury was that made him miss some time in the middle of the game.

3. Taysom Hill is simply an amazing athlete.

4. Shy Tuttle with the play of the game. Great to pick the ball and the stiffarm to Ryans face was just icing on top.

5. Eli Apple has been pretty good so far this season but today he looked like Ken Crawley. Bad technique and never getting his head around to locate the ball.

6. Offence as a whole looked stale today but the running game felt especially anemic. Kamara's statline looks good but thats about it.

7. Drops! Thomas dropped one, Kamara dropped one, Cook dropped two and unsurprisingly Ginn dropped another one. Two of those drops should have been TDs. We can't have stuff like that against the 49ers.

8. Our run D was very stout again. Some yards to find on the outside but the middle was clogged. The hit by Alonso was a thing of Beauty.

9. Brees looked good again but he didn't get much help from the pass catchers.

10. Cameron Jordan! What a STUD. His 13,5 sacks, as it stands right now, is a career best for a season.

Glad for any win, and certainly a division clinching one against the Clowns, BUT...

The finish to that game SUCKED!!!

Is Kamara still hurt??? He did little on the ground and looked scared of the ball on onside kicks. I was reminded of the onside kickoff in the Bourbon Bowl in Waterboy. “Oh yeah, there’s my #####!"

Letting that game get close was pathetic. It took 9 sacks and 3 turnovers to beat Atlanta. Either stat by itself should have been enough!

The defense went soft, the offense went to sleep at times and the penalties again were killers.

We play like that vs 69ers and we’ll get spanked...

We need to work on our "hands" team.

Great win for us and a lot of positives amongst some definite negatives! Penalties are killing us, SP still needs to get this sorted and the dropped passes! Also, how do we let the Falcons recover 3 onside kicks! That needs sorting! Anyway, we got the win and the division so I guess thats all that matters. We will need what amounts to perfection on all sides of the ball against the 49ers though! Hopefully the Saints will use the extra time they have before that game and get these things ironed out! WHO DAT! :-)

Agree on all the above! Plus, we were fortunate the Falcons missed a couple of key kicks during the game. We may have won the Division, but based upon the past 3 weeks performances this team is going NOWHERE in the playoffs. They have a lot of work ahead of them if they expect to be a legit SB contender. The team looked awful today on offense and seem to have no discipline given the number of penalties taken. As I watched the game last night, I was getting more and more concerned. This was against the Falcons....not the Patriots, Ravens or SF. I have confidence in Payton to right the ship, but they are taking on water badly!

Saints Defense ...

Specifically the D line stepped up. Cam, Davenport, Tuttle, Mr. Rookie aka CGJ were big time in key moments.

Take some Taysom Hill had another "impact" with the block punt & was outstanding.

Penalties are a BIG concern for me. It has to be adressed.

1. Apple will be fine, I believe he’s starting smelling himself again.
2. Special Teams is terrible. Same stuff against da Bears.
3. Dropped passes and those two PI’s kept game close. 3rd one not as much.
4. Ryan gets mushed to grd and Cam gets flagged. 3 pts at least off board.
5. Don’t think I’ve ever seen Drew more pissed.
6. Sean seemed more pissed than after missed call against Rams.
7. Someone needs to get demoted and fired today.
8. Bye Ted Ginn
9. Where the heck is Kirkwood?

Who is getting demoted/fired on the Saints squad?

SP isn't getting rid of anyone at this point of the season.

Re: Observations from the Saints win over the Falcons

- too many lazy players giving low effort.

- WRs and Cook can’t catch and we need something to change, bring someone up from the PS or sign Dez because outside of MT Drew has no one to throw to.

- Kamara continues to look like **** this season, since he has been back from injury he has been a negative for the team. Murray needs to be much more involved.

- bad penalties on Defense yet again

- the worst special teams play I’ve seen in years, again thanks to AK for playing scared.

Overall, very disappointing game. This game should have been 40-9 but because they can’t catch and don’t want to grab an onside kick ATL actually had a shot at winning.

If I had to describe this team right now in 1 word... lackluster

Aside from the defensive front 7 everyone should be back in for practice this week.

The guy he was yelling at after the 2nd recover. Buddy looked liked he wanted to cry anyway.

When Sean reviews the tape on today/tomorrow, trust me Dan Rizzo will get dog cussed as well as the entire "all hands" team.

Side note - some of these penalties have been "questionable" but most of those PI calls were legit last night. Those flags on 3rd down continue to haunt us. Saints must do better in film study and @ practice.

CGM & Kamara dropped passes too. Brees slung a rainbow to Cook and it went right through his hands . Just about everyone not including the D line looked lazy for some reason. Lots to clean up before the showdown vs 49ers.

Congrats on NFC South champs though. One goal accomplished.

~ I can understand/accept the garbage time lackluster effort at the end of the game. I don't like it, but I get it.
~ But what really makes me throw the remote are the Dumb @$$ penalties. We get enough B.S. penalties, we don't need the dumb@$$ penalties.
~ Apple?... WTF are you doing son? You can't be that stupid? You push a receiver out of bounds that you had covered on the sideline that couldn't have caught the ball anyway? On 3rd down? Are you f$%^&* taking stupid pills?
~ Cam... dude, we love you but your killing us. You block Ryan in the back drawing a flag AFTER Tuttle stiff-arms him out of the play & puts our Offense on the doorstep of the endzone? Stop doing stupid stuff!

Same here. I’ll comment more when I get home. In Tennessee visiting my son. Heading to Florida Georgia Line’s club in a few minutes to catch his show!

It’s funny that Failclown fans are whining about their O-Line like we didn’t have backups at LT and LG with a rookie at C. Takk McKinley is straight up garbage.

Vonn Bell played 104 snaps last night on 3 days rest. We’ve gotta re-sign this guy this offseason.

Re: Observations from the Saints win over the Falcons

One thing I took away from last night, ZERO sacks given up by an offensive line starting back ups on the left side. They looked good, helped that Brees threw quick passes but it’s going to take a game like that plus their A++ game to handle the 49ers defensive line. Not even sure if having Armstead back would be good, teams don’t rotate Olineman

Game Ball's presented to three Saints.

Cam Jordan (yes)
Taysom Hill (yes)
Drew Brees ( ? )

Wil Lutz (overlooked)
Had one of his best games of the year. Not only did he total 14 points, but he did not miss a try.

Re: Observations from the Saints win over the Falcons

- Mother**** Atlanta

- We are 10-2

- The perfect onside kick is called perfect for a reason. Go back and watch them.... ground to thigh height until it hits the 10 yard mark then pops up too high to be fielded which allows the kicking team to be ready for it to come down. Hands team knows going up for it is asking for a helmet under the chin. I watched both Thomas and Kamara make business decisions to not go after the ball.

- Brees sped up his game and his release time, seems to be helping a lot.

- Murry is very hot and very cold.

- Some people say we have impressive garbage time stats on Defense... I say getting into garbage time on Defense is impressive.

- Will Lutz leads the ENTIRE ****ing league in scoring.. 110 points (second place is 1004)

- Cameron Jordan leads the ENTIRE ****ing league in sacks with 13.5

.... bring on the 49ers.

The first onside kick - Kamara hesitated, not sure what's been up with him recently.

The second onside kick is a little different - Vonn Bell's responsibility is to block, he semi jumps for the ball which seems to distract Michael Thomas. When Vonn jumped for the ball, the man he was responsible for blocking flies past him and tips the ball.

I'd expect an uncomfortable week for the ST coordinators.

Is Alvin Kamara (aka) Z28 getting gun shy. Noticed on the pitch out play for a huge gain near the goal line . He would have taken that in for a score last season . He cringing before a hit instead of delivering it. Any one seeing this or I’m just spoiled maybe.

Yep, definitely noticed him making more business decisions this season. His vibe has been a lot different.
