Had 24 hours to reflect on the game

I'm honestly over it now, bad way to lose but if we make those kind of mistakes and only lose by 2 points - then SF are in big trouble when we meet again.

Couple of things I really liked;

Offense - not seen that sort of performance for a few years, and against the "Top Ranked D, who will bury Brees all game"

Deonte Harris - needs more snaps on offense, guy is a game changer

Taysom Hill Running over their middle LB was priceless, dude got trucked for 7 yards by our backup QB.

Trequan finally made some plays - when he has the ball in his hands, he is great for YAC, the only problem is him catching it in the first place.

Before getting injured, they had no answer for Jared Cook.

Remember - when it comes to the playoffs, this game has no relevance. The Rams didnt care that we beat them last regular season, playoffs are a whole different animal.
We are 5-1 on the road this season, we can win in the playoffs as long as the D gets their act together.

Rugby, when you get a chance go and watch Max Kellerman’s debate on first take. He’s been behind us all season. He’s the only person I’ve heard that has actually made sense of the none holding call on the fake punt.
He’s my new guy.
Can someone here please educate me, I’m a little confused.
When is a play actually considered a punt.
Is it the formation or what?
Is it when the punter actually punts his foot on the ball?
What is different from a punt formation and a QB in shotgun?
I’m lost on this one.

Re: Had 24 hours to reflect on the game

stephen a is actually dead on with this. it was mind numbingly foolish to run that fake punt play for several reasons:

1) he's right about not putting the team in a position to rely on the refs when we know how that turns out for us.

2) sean is on the rule's committee and should know that not only is that going to be a low percentage play, but it's not reviewable

3) it was just a poorly designed play. the second any defender sees that it's #7 in the backfield they know what's going on, which is exactly what happened

4) it was a terrible route. you need 18 yards and you send TQS, who all due respect hasn't exactly shown up for us all season, on a route down the perimeter on a play where the blocker is allowed to be physical and just bully him out of the play. why not send him on a cross or a hook route or anything that gives him any chance at catching the ball?

the defense is largely responsible for how close this game was, but if sean avoids one, at most two, terrible decisions and we win. and it's a shame because the 9ers were the ones who had to run trick plays to score. we were lining up and beating them. sean just can't help himself and it cost us dearly yesterday.

Time to fire Payton and get a new younger QB while we're at it.

Re: Had 24 hours to reflect on the game

Going for 2 points with 3 quarters of football left .
Fake punt (4th and 18)
Not attacking the 49ers D up the middle by utilizing Freight Train Murray.

Those are all on the Head Coach. Was this SP or Jason Garrett calling plays on yesterday?

I don't know if there is a better play caller/offensive mind in the NFL but this was coach's worst game plan in a while.

Re: Had 24 hours to reflect on the game

I would say we need to re-evaluate Marcus Williams spot on this team though.

Theres only so many times he can mess up an assignment and yesterday was probably his worst game. From the very first snap he was either out of position, missing tackles or falling over in pass coverage.

I don't think the game plan was bad (you don't game plan to go for 2 in that spot), I think the decisions that you mentioned were dumb. As soon as we missed the 2-point conversion you knew it was going to come back to haunt us. The fake punt was a blunder from the get go... you had Taysom line up as the punter, everyone was looking for the fake.

A few bad decisions is all it takes in this league, but even with that I still put this loss on the D. You can't give up 48 points and expect to win.

The Saints are 0-42 when running the ball less than 15 times in a game.
