He can obviously do it
Then agsinst He noticeable struggled with a full season two years ago. This year's injury kept him fresher. The whole low turnover this year is a bit of a myth, there's a video out showing he should have been picked 7 times over the last few games. Also the NFL is changing, and it's doing it quickly. Teams need to be able to hit quickly on offense to keep up with the Ravens, Chiefs. Even Seattle is trying to speed up with the multiple WRs they have and Wilson ability to hit a deep ball. The cap hit is going to hurt when it comes but rather than waste years on players we ha e it needs to be this off-season or next. Good chance of a reduced 2021 season too with a upcoming cba |
"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......
One thing is becoming more obvious to me as time goes on... if Brees wants to come back the Saint basically don’t have an option but to let him back on a new poisonous contract. Due to the dead money Brees is going to be in control here.
Hope he wants to move on but I doubt he will. |

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......
The 21 mil dead money is a concern. It seems like the best-case scenario for the team would be him returning on a one-year deal even if it's high-dollar and also publicly or privately saying this is his last year and he'll retire at end of season. That would leave us free of any dead cap from him for 2021-22 going into a season with a new CBA and gives us one more year to prep his replacement (likely Taysom). But this is the 21st century and Brees has a pretty powerful agent so I doubt it will go this cleanly.

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......
The fact is Brees could sign a one year 25 million dollar deal and that's a discount based on going rate for top QB's. There's a 21 million cap hit either way. They can lesson that, but it just kicks the can a little further down the road.

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......
I want Brees to retire. I would've been fine with him retiring last year after how bad he finished the 2018 season but after seeing Bridgewater and this last playoff exit where Brees looked awful, I definitely want him to retire now.
If he wasn't Drew Brees, everyone would be calling him selfish for trying to play in his 40s past his prime. I feel the same way about Brady and Roethlisberger. These guys need to hang it up and let a young guy come in and have his chance. They're selfish to keep playing all to pad stats and get records and hopefully another ring. Brees has a ring. He's never going to face the scrutiny or "choker" label historically that guys like Dan Marino and Jim Kelly got stuck with. We were 5-0 with Bridgewater and the team played differently and overall more like a team. Brees comes back and the running game disappears so we can pad the passing stats and we overall took a step back. That Falcons loss showed what can easily happen when Brees is having one of those bad days. Bridgewater is our future or at least a bridge until we can get a prospect like Trevor Lawrence. |

Re: I Want Drew Brees Back IF.......
Brees like Payton will be here until they don't want to be here anymore. The powers that be don't have the balls to move on from either even if we have another let down of a season next year.
It's odd because the Saints could have easily had a bye but it feels like we underachieved so much that I wouldn't care if either moved on. We need new secondary talent. Tired of Marcus Williams. |
