Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't think Shanahan had much trust in Jimmy G ... Right before half, 3 times and an opportunity to score & late Jimmy had a wide open Sanders but he failed to make that throw. Jimmy G isn't big ...

Jimmy G isn't big time, meanwhile that #15 is special.

You are twisting my words. That isn't the only reason we lost. We have a bunch of little issues that throw us off. We could use another WR threat for example. There is a strong statistical basis for saying that we don't run the ball enough. We run the ball much less in the games that we lose in comparison to the games that we win. You could argue that we have to throw the ball more to catch up, though I think this is a poor argument. In the game against the Vikings, we ran the ball 17 times versus 34 passes. 4 of those runs were by Taysom Hill, 1 was by Drew Brees, That is 12 rushing attempts from the RBs. Both RBs(Kamara/Murray) were averaging over 3 yards per carry, with Murray averaging over 4 yards per carry. We made absolutely no attempt to get the running game going. So yes, a simple solution may be to run the ball more.

Good luck preaching that to the little general . He’s bull headed to listening to anyone other than himself. Popping 5 yard completions to MT all day will get us to the promised land.

Saints didn't address this for 2 years now and it cost us. I'd draft one EARLY & then sign an experienced vet. You can never have enough weapons at WR.

Chiefs have Kelcey, Tyreek and Watkins. Major threats and weapons.

A name not many are mentioning this morning is the play calling of Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy. IMO he's well deserving of a Head Coaching opportunity.

We’ve all beat a hole thru the freakin drum for 2 years needing a legit slot/wr someone who could change directions on a dime to pop open ,a half of lance moore would could have possibly got us thru big games. I’m echoing your reply but don’t give a rats assre. It’s that kind of morning after a Super Bowl my saints ain’t in.

Then why are football coaches so stupid that they cannot understand that concept? One reason is that defenses make adjustments as the game goes on. Early success running can be addressed by the defense which forces the audible to a pass plays, instead. Running less is usually the result of game flow which is why there are commonly fewer runs in losing efforts. It is also a fact that when a team is behind and needs to maximize the time remaining that fewer rushing attempts are made. Lower run counts are usually a result, not a cause.

To my untrained eyes it feels like we abandon the run early in the game when the holes aren't there. That makes some sense to me and I understand why we keep going pass happy when we aren't moving the ball on the ground. This is why I'm pounding the table for a LG to replace Peat. Warford doesn't pass the eye test either and I think he could be replaced. We have to be able to open holes for the backs or give Drew some time in the pocket.
