Drew Brees’ retirement talk isn’t idle chatter

Saints quarterback Drew Brees will return to the team for a 15th season or retire. Whatever he ultimately does, this isn’t an effort to generate attention or spark discussion. Brees, unlike plenty of other quarterbacks who from time to time have talked openly about retirement with no real intention of ever doing so, is and will be genuinely and seriously considering retirement.

As one source explained it to PFT, the Saints wants Brees back for what would essentially become a transition year, from Brees to Taysom Hill with Hill becoming the starter in 2021. Even if Brees comes back, Hill will be used much more extensively as part of the team’s offense in 2020 — especially in light of some private regret that, if Hill had been utilized just a little bit more in the wild-card loss to the Vikings, the Saints quite likely would have won the game.

My final post on Drew subject . Love me some Brees but I’m ready to move on , if he’s back love it if not let’s brace ourselves with growing pains. If no one noticed in the nfccg in ( forget about the f—ing nonflag drew couldn’t put it away I saw it he didn’t have that look that confidence we’ve seen for years. Then same crap with Vikings . It’s time boys

Honestly, 1 more year of Drew sounds fair. Would be even better if he announces it's his last year before the season.

I just feel every year it will be the same. He does not want to retire before Brady

He's not retiring. Only QBs playing today that would have had a chance in that game with how bad our O line played are Russel Wilson or Deshaun Watson.

Wilson or Mahomes, in my book. I'd much rather have Brees than Watson.

Brees is doing this all for stats. I can’t believe how selfish he’s gotten over the years

Bull****. You haven't a clue. There's probably not a less selfish player in the game. He loves to complete, loves the game as a whole and wants to win. The only stats he wants are wins.

I've very often felt comfortable with the ball in Brees hands and the decisions he makes. The offseason is no different. Take your time Drew, it's cool. There probably is no wrong decision.

Listening to jake delomme on Espn he thinks drew is out of character not coming out the gate saying he’s coming back. It’s a big decision for the king.

He said exactly the same thing the last two years. What's the difference. He said he was going to give it time to wind down just like usual.

I would love to see how a 2 Qb system for just a year . If anyone can make that work for a year it’s Payton.

I do too. Although, hopefully not too early. I'd rather have players that can start right away and contribute while we still have the window for success open with Brees. Although, we really do need a backup QB so that Taysom can be used where he is most valuable ... as an all round weapon.

I hope Drew plays in the black and gold until he's 45. By the way, he's not selfish. He's competitive.

Re: Drew Brees’ retirement talk isn’t idle chatter

Sean Payton 5-0 without Drew Brees

Drew Brees 7-9 without Sean Payton

Drew Brees passer rating with Payton- 105.6
Drew Brees passer rating without Payton- 82.3

Interesting to think about how good both Payton and Breed would be if they never connected. I’m glad they did, been fun to watch for all these years. It’s going to be very interesting to see if Payton is successful with other QBs.

Brees will be back. And some of you really don't understand the gravity of what he has done and will continue to do for the Saints as long as he's there.

They don't seem to realize that even if he isn't everything he has been, he is still one of the very best in the NFL. Given his accuracy, knowledge of the game and leadership abilities, ANY replacement will be a definite downgrade. Thinking anything else is tremendously short-sighted.

Exactly. Now is our best chance for another. I'm not wanting to wait another 45 years for another great QB to lead us.

Brees has always not responded well to inside pressure

Both Atlanta and the Vikings unwound there.

THese national sports writers going off on his demise are pathetic

Sure he does't throw a zippy 50 yard bomb - but he has the smarts, accuracy and leadership.

Take a home field pay cut and win one for the team.

Pay cut or not he gives us our very best chance of winning now.

He probably will. On the contrary, I Think most people on here are well aware on how pivotal Brees has been in transforming this club from an afterthought to a destination. He have had more than a decade that has been tremendous since Brees and SP got here. There are kids nowaday 15-20 years old that don't remember the Saints as a bad team. Its not that long ago that people look at us the way we do the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins now.

But even with all that said I can understand why some people would like a change. My favorite coach Always said Football is a young mans game. And if not that it is atleast a "What have you done for me lately" business.

Personally I love Drew Brees and for all his done for the club I hope he gets to play as long as he wants. I can even stand us having a crappy season or two if thats what it comes to.
Being able to keep to thoughts at the same time; I am however excited about the prospect of getting a new QB whenever that happens, mainly because of the style of football I like best. I love the big armed gun-slingers. Favre might be my all-time favorite. Somebody who can throw a 60yd dart to a really speedy reciever. (I'm rooting for the Chiefs for that reason, and because I like the walruss) Couple that with some Power running and I am a happy camper. Thats not the type of offence that can be run with Brees, he never had an howitzer for an arm and it has gotten weaker, especially when he can't plant his feet and use his great technique to launch it.

The annual what will Brees do articles based off guesses to provoke reactions. Same as the Payton going to Dallas stories every year. How has Brady who is older than Brees not had these articles written about him every year?

Drew is here for at least one more year. He will continue to break records and will lead us to the playoffs again. If we had a better O-line and run game he could play a couple of more years as a game manager while Payton keeps looking for his replacement.

For those of you who want Drew Brees to retire now.....suffer bitc***! :bng:
