I'll take good ole American football over the greedy world wide football any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Who wants to watch the Mexico City Diabloes or the England Bloaks, not me.
That's the same argument that was being made when the season went from twelve games to fourteen. And, once again, the same arguments when it went from fourteen to sixteen.

And the NFL is very much against any more expansion. The moving of franchises, sure, but the 32 team formula is ideal with either a 16 or 17 game schedule.

Getting this clear here, by not wanting one more week WITHOUT football, you would want one more week WITH football, correct?

Yes. It's not that hard to figure out.
There is no corollary between adding an extra game and also having to add an additional bye week. Simple: 18 week season.

The additional bye weeks has been discussed as something that the players would want if the season was lengthened. How many times have you heard about a bye week coming at the right time to give a player an extra week to recover from a sprain or such. It would cure all ills, but it would give an extra break over what they have currently. The currently have one week's break for every 16 played. An extra bye week would give them a week off for every 8.5 weeks played.

I can understand as a fan it would mean one more week that your team wouldn't be playing, but I for one enjoy watching all the games even on the Saints bye weeks. To me it's just more weekends with REAL football. Preseason games are pretty much meaningless. The vast majority of coaches would rather have a controlled scrimmage than a preseason game. Let's cut it back to two preseason games. Or better yet, none and have two controlled scrimmages against an opponent and charge $10 per ticket for fans to watch.
