8/7/05 Saints passing game looking good

QBs Aaron Brooks and Todd Bouman combined to go 7-for-7 passing as the Saints ran an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday, The Advocate reports. Brooks played sparingly, as most of the main guys did, but he was on target with all three of his pass attempt. Bouman had a 5-yard TD pass to WR Talman Gardner.

Here are the last few updates fantasyguru has had on the NFC South.

New Orleans Saints

8/6/05 McKenzie looking good for ‘Nawlins

The Saints have been impressed with CB Mike McKenzie, who seems to make one big play every practice, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

8/5/05 Trim Williams still not favored in New Orleans

Despite the fact that he lost 20 pounds in the offseason, Saint TE Boo Williams is still behind two other tight ends in camp right now, The Advocate reports. TE Ernie Conwell is the starter on paper with TE Zach Hilton currently the #2 guy. The Saints also have TE Shad Meier, who's coming off knee surgery earlier this week. He's expected to be ready around opening day.

8/3/05: Stallworth could be slotted for success

For the first time in his pro career, Saint WR Donte Stallworth has been working as the slot receiver in certain formations, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Stallworth said he played slot receiver extensively during his junior season at Tennessee. He spent much of the offseason studying Jerome Pathon's route-running techniques from past seasons.

8/2/05: Henderson off to slow start

Saint WR Devery Henderson hasn't been that impressive in early workouts, with a specific problem dropping passes, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Henderson is battling Az Hakim and perhaps Talman Gardner for the #3 WR spot on the depth chart.

7/30/05 Henderson looks to make his mark

Saint WR Devery Henderson is battling Az Hakim for the #3 WR spot on the depth chart, despite the fact that he hardly played in his rookie season. "I think it's going to be interesting,"Jim Haslett told the Times-Picayune. "We can't have enough playmakers on that side of the ball."

7/30/05 Saints covered with McKenzie

The Saints have extended CB Mike McKenzie's contract through the 2009 season. The additional three years are reportedly worth in the $22 million range.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

8/2/05: Pittman looks to mentor Cadillac

Even though his starting job has been essentially stolen by rookie RB Cadillac Williams, Tampa Bay veteran RB Michael Pittman says he's willing to take on a mentor role. A major part of what Pittman can teach Williams comes in the passing game – running routes, blitz pickup, etc. Williams is already listed as #1 on the depth chart, for what it's worth. One other note on Williams: the Bucs aren't adverse to the idea of using him as a return man from time to time.

8/2/05: Gruden not thrilled with kicking game

The Bucs havne't been overly impressed with PKs Doug France and Matt Bryant thus far in camp, and head coach Jon Gruden isn't adverse to bringing in another kicker from off the street.

8/1/05 Bucs to ride Cadillac right away?

The Buccaneers are listing RB Cadillac Williams as the #1 back on their depth chart for now, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

7/30/05 Galloway to take it easy in camp

The Buccaneers want to limit WR Joey Galloway's work in camp with the intent of having him fresh for the regular season. Galloway has played a full schedule just twice in the last six years.

Pardon me but , is this against one of the lower ranked defenses in the league ???

No. It isn't. The personnel has changed.

Well I think it says more about Bouman and Gardner than Brooks. Brooks only went 2 for 2. But I have to disagree on the defense. I wouldn't say we are a to 5 Def. but I think we should be middle of the pack this year. Of course if you can't read anything into it since we are scrimmaging against a bad defense then I guess anything anyone has said about our offense in the offseason and camp is out the window.

I didn't listen to the whole broadcast, but I did tune in near the end, and I could have sworn that they said that AB had Conwell open on one play and threw the ball into the dirt.
