Despite the obvious and uncanny skill set of Saints master-of-all-trades Taysom Hill, plenty seem to be skeptical as to whether he can be a franchise quarterback. Taysom Hill is not.
“I definitely view myself as a franchise quarterback,” Hill told Rob Maadi of the Associated Press during Super Bowl week. The Saints view Hill that way, too. The question becomes whether another team will make Hill a restricted free-agency offer the Saints can’t or won’t match, accepting a first-round pick as compensation for him. “Do I want to leave?” Hill said. “The fact of the matter is no. But as you look at free agency, you have to find the right opportunity for you. You have to find the situation to take care of your family. I want to play quarterback in this league. If New Orleans don’t view me that why, well then I have to leave.” more on PFT Last edited by SmashMouth; 02-10-2020 at 05:15 PM.. |

Re: Taysom Hill views himself as a franchise quarterback, wants to be with a team that views him that way
Yawn. Payton is doing his best to pump up Hill for the placement of the RFA first round tag. There is no way any team is going to commit starter money to Hill with all the other free agent options out there. The best deal he might get would be as a utility player as he is now for around $10M max on a three year deal. The Saints would gladly match that especially if it would be cap friendly the final two years. If by some miracle some team buy into the totally unproven possibility that Hill could be a viable starter and offers him that money then the Saints get that team's first round pick this season.

Well, it's difficult to say anything bad about this guy considering the season he just had.
However, franchise quarterback? Sorry buddy, but those 7 career completions kind of tell the story. Don't try to be something you're not (see Tim Tebow), especially at age 30. Most telling for me was the Saints stance last off-season: they weren't even comfortable enough to promote him to back-up, instead buying the 7 million dollar insurance policy named Teddy. |

Hill said he wants to play with Brees another year. He wants to be a starter but it doesn’t have to be this year. We will get a journeyman backup or draft a developmental player and Brees and Hill will both see the field as Qb’s.
Never been a fan of the “dual qb system” long term but Payton can win a SB doing it for a year imo. |

If we go with a 30+ year old run QB who has never started an NFL game in his career, the only conclusion I can come up with is that we are tanking.
I'd rather Brees come back for one more year than have Hill as a starting QB. |

Payton can't even get back to the SB with Brees, I don't think he does it with a dual QB system. |

The guy operated extremely well (knew the playbook/limited turnovers) in SP system. It won't surprise me at all to see a team without a top draft pick to have him on their radar. |

Re: Taysom Hill views himself as a franchise quarterback, wants to be with a team that views him that way
I think it's premature to write-off Taysom, Payton sure makes it seem like he is the future starter for the Saints.
Taysom's biggest issue is age, however I don't think any running QB is going to be successful for more than 5 year stretches. This goes for Jackson and others. The punishment is to much to take at that position, any injury can significantly impact throwing motion etc... From what I have seen (preseason), Taysom can be a solid QB, but he needs to be a pass first and read through progression QB if he wants to have a long career. Teddy is a safe QB, he won't win you games, but he won't lose them for you either. Taysom is a QB that can put the team on his back and win it himself if needed, but over a full season there might be a lot of risk with that play style. |
The Saints are 0-42 when running the ball less than 15 times in a game.

Re: Taysom Hill views himself as a franchise quarterback, wants to be with a team that views him that way
I'm hoping that New Orleans will keep Taysom in his current role for years. It sounds like Taysom wants more and I can't blame him for trying but he fits so perfectly in Sean Payton's game plan.
