CAMP CONFIDENTIAL
Wednesday, August 10, 2005 Jeff Duncan Temperature: 94 Heat index: 106 Attendance: 300 In the spotlight: Strong safety Depth chart No. player | Ht. | Wt. | Exp. 20 Jay Bellamy | 5-11 | 200 | 12 40 Mel Mitchell | 6-1 | 222 | 4 39 Brent Hafford | 6-0 | 190 | 1 Bellamy is a wily veteran who knows the defense and keeps the secondary in the right coverage. Mitchell is an excellent playmaker on special teams, but could be in danger of losing his roster spot. He's another player who needs to make something happen in the preseason. Hafford has played well and could earn a spot on the practice squad. GET TO KNOW: Dwayne Ledford Position: Guard Height/weight: 6-4, 300 Experience: 3 Age: 28 College: East Carolina Hometown: Morgantown, N.C. Did you know: Played in eight games with San Francisco in 2003. . . . Started for first time at St. Louis. . . . Played for Rhein Fire in NFL Europe in 2002 and started all 10 games, including the World Bowl. . . . Made switch from defensive tackle to offensive tackle as a senior at East Carolina. . . . Started 11 games at defensive tackle in 1997. . . . Spent parts of 1999 and 2000 on practice squad and active rosters of San Francisco and Jacksonville. . . . Played high school football at McDowell in Madison, N.C. He said it: "Sometimes it is frustrating because you see guys at your position and think that should be me. But that's also what keeps you motivated. For everyone in this league, it's about competing." WHO'S HOT: Alfred Fincher is taking advantage of a spate of injuries at linebacker to make a push for more playing time. The rookie middle linebacker made two excellent plays in the backfield and appears to be gaining more confidence each day. WHO'S NOT: Nate Poole has not played poorly, but he hasn't been able to ascend the depth chart, either. He'll get more opportunities this week with injuries to Az-Zahir Hakim and Dontè Stallworth. Poole needs to make an impression during the preseason games. PLAY OF THE DAY: Linebackers Alfred Fincher and Cie Grant diagnosed an end around by Michael Lewis on third-and-two and tackled him for a loss. Lewis sprinted around left end after taking a handoff from Aaron Stecker, but Fincher and Grant were waiting for him. INJURY REPORT Pos. | Player | Injury WR | Az-Zahir Hakim | right hamstring (out) TE | Shad Meier | torn knee meniscus (out) OL | Jon Stinchcomb | torn patellar tendon (out) OL | Spencer Folau | sore shoulder (out) LB | Roger Knight | sore right knee (out) C | LeCharles Bentley | hyperextended wrist (out) WR | Donté Stallworth | foot (out) LB | James Allen | knee (out) QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I'll probably bowl a 240 or a 260. I'm real tired from practice. That's the only reason I won't be in the high 280s." -- running back Deuce McAllister, predicting his performance at the team's bowling night Tuesday. TODAY'S SCHEDULE: Morning, practice (indoors), 9 a.m.; evening, practice, 7:30 p.m., (indoors). http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index...5350368030.xml |
