what are you guys expecting from the first preseason game
i hate to admit it but i expect to watch us have the ball ran down our throat and our o to have trouble executing. after the game we will here has say that if not for the two long runs of 38 and 24 yards they only averaged 3.4 yards per carry.
i am really interested in hearing what you guys expect. give me some hope |

RE: what are you guys expecting from the first preseason gam
I'm expecting rookie mistakes to be made by the LBs which cause the long runs you mentioned. I also expect the secondary to be better and for Bullocks to make us question why Bellamy is still on the roster.
I'd like to see... Deuce get 1 carry for 5 yards and then stand on the sidelines for 59 1/2 minutes of play; AB go 4 of 5 for 75 yards and a TD; Zach catch a bunch of balls. Same for Gardner. Sully get pancake blocked by a rookie FA - numerous times; a decent game from start to finish (acknowledging the talent level drop off). |

RE: what are you guys expecting from the first preseason gam
I expect to see Sullivan dominate 2nd and 3rd stringers. I also would like to see Gardner catch 4 to 5 passes and Hilton to catch a touchdown. I can't wait to see Bullocks on the field... hopefully he'll be able to get his hands on one.
My main focus would probably be the performance of the DT position. Let's see who can cut it against the run and who can't. Can Jefferson make an impact this year? Can Leisle put all that strength to good use? Should be interesting. Last but certainly not least... we're going to get to see Cie Grant on the field!!!! |

RE: what are you guys expecting from the first preseason gam
I don't put a lot of faith in the pre-season. I really hope the Saints come out strong on both sides of the ball. I agree with Scotty on the mistakes by the LB's. But, all in all, the defensive unit should look better than last year. Bottom line is the D is bringing back 10 of 11 starters from the end of last season. They should be better this year. Lets face it, it shouldn't look worse. The back-up LB's and DT's all were starting at some point last year. I think the Saints will look good in the preseason.

the main thing i don't want to see is injuries...............
if they run the ball down our throats, we could be in for another long season............... i hope this is not the case........... i expect to see at least 2 sacks and maybe more. actually, i would not even prefer to see the 1st unit til the last pre-season game, and then for maybe a 1/2, but it won't happen........... these games will tell us where we stand when the regular season starts, and i look for good things to happen. of course, i always look for good things to happen..........smitty |

Really don't know what to expect. I'll be keeping an eye on the so-called "Dumbed Down" offense, the run defense and Henderson. I'd also like to see Talman do well.

I plan on watching Lewis and Gleason. Why? Because I like seeing that 22 car pile up known as Special Teams Play (with hopefully no injuries on either side). Just something about the kickoff gets the blood pumping. Looking forward to seeing Fincher, Smith, and MM on D. On offense I'd like to see Bouman do very crappy because, lets face it, I don't really like him. I also don't like everything thing I read on the Saints QB situation to talk about him being an experienced back up. Thats total bs imo. I'd rather see KK make the team, and of course Amac will be there.

I know we're excited, but it's the pre-season. No matter what you see, doesn't mean that will translate to the reg season. So what if we get ran on? We will play a lot of inexperienced guys, probably early. If our starters are only out there a series or two, but in the finaly tally we have given up 150 yards rushing, doesn't mean anything. The thing to look out for is can our first team offense drive down the field, and can our first team defense stop Seattle's first team from doing the same. Outside of this, everything else is a chance to see fan favorites and hopefuls play against practice squad fodder and guys who won't be in the league next week.

What are we gonna learn from the Seattle game?
At this point I'm pretty sure of a couple of 'revelations'
1. Deuce is gonna run real strong up the middle but sweeps are gonna get stuffed 2. Amac is going to be a 'gamer' who makes highlight reel scrambles but piss poor timing on his throws 3. The much maligned D is gonna show flashes of real talent-- we're all gonna start remembering that this franchise (if it has anything) has a history of fielding hard-nosed defences. 4. Sullivan is poo. There is just less of his general 'pooyness' occupying space. 5. This Slaughter guy is gonna make some plays and get some buzz. 6. The beerman will make at least one great catch on a seam route- I love that guy, maybe its the no-college-no-chance-cut-re-signed-too-little-too-ugly type qualities but he epitomizes what I love about football, and also what I love about the Saints. Go Beerman Go !!!! Any other ideas from the peanut gallery? |

What do I EXPECT to see? I dunno honestly.
What do I WANT to see? I want to see the first team defense swarm to the ball. I'd like to see two series where Seattle goes 3 and out once, and strings along 5 or 6 plays in another, but gets no further. I would love to see a sack or big play in the secondary - whether it's a big hit, pass defense, or INT. From there on, I want to ZERO injuries, and I just want to see show Cie Grant, Josh Bullocks, Alfred Fincher, and the other rookies look. On offense, I want two series with the starters, and I'd like to see one drive for a score. I'd like to see the o-line drive block effectively in the running game, and give Brooks time in the passing game. I don't care how many yards Deuce has, I want to see him light on his feet, with flashes that show he's back to running with power and agility, and not slow to make decisions. From AB, I want to see quick smart decisions and footballs delivered to WRs where they can catch them. No moon rockets or turf throws. No backpeddling, stupid spin moves, or other bone-headed plays. Take care of the ball, get to the line quickly, and lead the team down the field. From the WRs, I'd like to see zero drops. I'd like Horn to have one catch, and I'd like to see Donte turn one underneath route into a big gain. Then I want them pulled and I want to see as much of Gardner, Poole, Hakim, and Henderson as possible. I'd like to see Hilton block well and catch a pass. Thereafter, I want all of the starters to sit on the sideline and drink Gatorade. I'd like to see a good deal of Antowain Smith and Aaron Stecker, and I certainly want to see if Bouman is still a clown, and what A-Mac and KK can do. |
