Saints Draft Days Official Thread

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I'd like to think we are going to address life after Brees tonight, however I just have a feeling that they'll leave it until Brees says he is going. I'd be happy with QB, LB or WR being addressed. Anything ...

I'd be happy with QB, LB or WR being addressed. Anything else and I'd be pretty annoyed.

DT
1st round (if he is there... he won't be)
Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina
Height: 6-5. Weight: 315. Arm: 34.5. Hand: 10.13.
Projected 40 Time: 5.10.
Projected Round (2020): Top-20.
4/22/20: Kinlaw was superb for the Gamecocks in 2019, totaling 35 tackles with six sacks and two passes defended. In 2018, he had 4.5 sacks, 38 tackles and five passes batted.

or late--

DaVon Hamilton, DT, Ohio State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 327. Arm: 32.88. Hand: 9.88.
40 Time: 5.14.
Projected Round (2020): 3-5.
4/22/20: Hamilton was a dangerous interior pass-rusher as a senior in 2019, recording 28 tackle with six sacks. Over the previous three seasons, he had one sack and 38 tackles as a rotational backup.

At LB--

K'Lavon Chaisson*, OLB/DE, LSU
Height: 6-4. Weight: 254. Arm: 32.25. Hand: 9.88.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Projected Round (2020): 1.
4/22/20: Chaisson has a lot of upside to fill out his frame and develop into a dangerous edge rusher. He is fast, long, and athletic on the edge. In 2019, he had 60 tackles with 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and two passes broken up while dealing with an ankle injury. Chaisson missed almost all of his 2018 season with a knee injury. In 2017, he had 27 tackles with two sacks and two passes batted. For today's NFL, Chaisson is a valuable commodity because he is a lightning-fast edge rusher and a twitchy athlete. Chaisson is quick off the ball with a fast first-step. He has a burst to run around the corner and a second gear to close on the quarterback. On top of being a pure speed rusher, Chaisson has an impressive arsenal of pass-rushing moves.

or late at SLB--

Anfernee Jennings, OLB/ILB, Alabama
Height: 6-1. Weight: 252. Arm: 32.75. Hand: 9.38.
Projected 40 Time: 4.63.
Projected Round (2020): 3-5.
4/22/20: Jennings recorded 83 tackles, eight sacks, five passes defended, one interception and a forced fumble in 2019. He is a dangerous blitzer who is a solid run defender in the middle of the field. Jennings has some limitations for the next level, but he could be a solid rotational backup.

Edit: write ups are from Walterfootball.com (it's decent and simple to look at)

All solid picks.

I posted a quick analysis on Anfernee a few days ago. He could be a golden pick in the middle rounds. He's a dawg and hates QB's.

The Kinlaw kid ... looks like the real deal and created a lot of disruption. He's as talented as Nick Fairley was coming out.

Chaisson ... there has been a ton of chatter around my area that Dallas will take him if he's there when the pick. Some claim he has D Ware potential while others think he's too "raw" in the 1st. Guess we'll find out.

Any legit talent coming from "Thee" Ohio State ... Saints have scouted. No secret we tend to like players coming out of Columbus.

I'll be highly disappointed if the Saints pick a QB tonight. Mostly because I would only give Burress a first round pick of all the guys in conversation. I don't want to see a WR, either. With Thomas and Sanders, plus whoever emerges from camp, and whoever we pick up later, we are in good shape there. LB, OL, CB, DL have to be the areas to improve.

Know they did it with Kamara last year letting Ingram inexplicably walk, but has Sean learned his lesson?
I would love to get Akers to go along with Murray. I don't think Kamara is worth a big contract and could net us some draft capitol. Not sure what his value is on the market? As far as Ingram, he was a good back but this is exactly why I don't think Payton sees rb.'s as high dollar contract material in his O. If so Ingram would have been worth a good contract.

That's been the problem though, no one at WR has emerged from camp in years. That's why we keep rolling out Trequan and Ginn, who are quite frankly awful. Imagine having Thomas, Sanders and someone like Jefferson, then being able to put Deonte Harris out there as the 4th receiver / gadget play guy.

All this talk in training camp about Emmanuel Butler and he couldnt even make the active roster on gameday.

Great point. I was super high on Tre'quan, but nothing has developed yet. And Ginn has faded a bit more every year. I think it's our lack of draft picks that makes me want to focus on other areas. And I feel its easier to find a WR free agent than those other positions.

If so, look for the Saints to pick Deandre Swift tonight.

DT for me. It really hurt us down the stretch and they normally can start right out the gate.

WR and OL can take 2-3 years. I would entertain a Kamara trade for sure. Lots of strong value at RB. Not sold on Helaire but he could be a good fit with LM.

So if the Saints stay at 24, about what time CST would that have them on the clock

I agree mostly. I want to see a LB first. Not a great draft for OL but Payton has found some gems in middle rounds in the past. I would still like us to pick a WR in the 3rd. Brees is going to need all the help he can get. Everything else BPA.
