Yeah I'm excited to see what these guys can do. The TE was a bit of a head scratcher. Mainly because of the amount of picks given up to get him, but no one is gonna ***** if he comes in and fights for playing time in his first year.
I did read somewhere on NFL.com that the Saints roster is so deep that the likelihood that many of the picks traded for Trautman would've probably been camp bodies anyway is pretty good. Hey I'm good with this draft. SP and Loomis always move for the people they want. We've had some great drafts the last few years. I'm sure that'll continue this year. |

Trying to see Payton's assertion that the rest of the draft is weak ... not sure I necessarily agree with that. But I do think it is deep and there may be small distinction between some 4th+ draftees and UDFA this year. Maybe that's what he really means. And actually considering the (unfortunate) cancellations of the AAF and XFL there is a very deep pool of talent to mine and more tape to watch than ever before this year.

Re: Saintfan's Take
I was glad to take O-line in the first round because you win in the trenches. Baun looks like a perfect fit for the Saints and I believe he has good coverage skills. I have a feeling he'll be playing a lot of snaps this year. And we've got a tight end with skills and smarts. It sounds like a solid draft to me.

" mini-Ditka", indeed. That took balls. Dikta is ridiculed to this very day for how that worked out. I like our odds this time.
