Saintfan's Take

So, as I've said, I am NOT the draft guru that some of you are. JP, REZ, and others, my apologies in advance...

I like our #1. I never complain when we try to improve the o-line. Football teams are built from the line out and this kid never gets flagged and never gives up a sack. I'm excited about him.

I thought our second pick was typical of us - a great player but with an injury concern. This LB is said to have been 1st round talent, so color me happy, and I was hoping we'd get a good LB and I guess we did. Speed. He can rush and he can cover. Excited to see what he can do.

This TE though, I mean I know he looks like a beast and did well in the Senior bowl, but we gave up the rest of the draft for this dude. I read that he's a good blocker which is nice, and his reel looks good. I hope he pays off. He was expensive.

Honestly I hope we don't leverage next years picks to get back in. We got o-line and we got LB. I was hoping we'd also get a WR but with Sanders maybe we're set? And I'm not sweating a QB prospect because I believe in Taysom, for whatever that's worth.

The South is gonna be tough this year and I think we're in the thick of it. Here's to a great season.

C'mon Man...

Re: Saintfan's Take

Good take saintfan.

I'm always happy with a big body on the line to protect Brees. Also glad we selected a player to affect the QB!

Those were the two boxes I hoped would get checked. They did.

WR is set IMO and adding Trautman gives us what looks to be at LEAST an upgrade over Josh Hill with the potential to be a Jason Whitten / George Kittle hybrid.

I'm pumped!

The Trautman trade will go down in history as Sean Payton's mini-Ditka .

Oh well, can't be mad about it in April, and one thing about Saints drafts, is they are very seldom boring!

We're not done yet, IMHO. And we seem to find hidden gems as UDFA... Like that QB at N Texas, Mason Fine. Or running backs.

Trautman says in his videos he compares himself to Kittle.

I've been expecting a veteran QB to fill that backup role all along. And if Trautman is truly a top 40 talent as Ireland must have determined then he wasn't expensive at all. We may have gotten an early 2nd round talent for a late 3rd round pick that was worth more than all of our remaining picks combined according to draft pick value charts.

Re: Saintfan's Take

I think anything we really come up with is inconclusive until the pads go on. I can say all day "I hate trading 4 picks, especially to Minny" but you just never know how it's going to shape up.

Minny could waste all 4 on camp bodies and we could have a decent player, who knows lol

Re: Saintfan's Take

Quality over quantity. Payton was quoted as saying he thought the rest of the draft was weak.

My guess is that their draft board showed what was left was no better than what they already have.

Or whats left isn't much better than their undrafted free agent grades.

Odds are VERY likely that this is what will happen.

Don't forget we entered this draft with what, five picks and no 2nd rounder? At this point we have a potential THREE starter quality players ... one a 1st round talent, and the other two solid 2nd round prospects.

Sounds pretty damned good to me. Three birds in the hand is better than five in the bush.

Re: Saintfan's Take

Agree with Guido. I feel our next QB is already playing in the NFL.

DeShaun Watson, anyone??
