Taysom Hill pegged again as Saints quarterback of the future
Taysom Hill pegged again as Saints quarterback of the future
There are a lot of talking heads out there in the NFL, and it’s hard to know who to trust. When Ian Rapoport or Adam Schefter talk about an NFL rumor, we generally take it as true. On the flip side, when someone like Chris Simms rattles off about how the Seattle Seahawks considered trading Russell Wilson to the Cleveland Browns, most NFL fans rightfully scoff at Simms’s actual insight into NFL teams. But somewhere between Chris Simms and New Orleans’ own Nick Underhill, is Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer. Glazer and New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton are known friends, and this has allowed Glazer the unique opportunity to break a fair amount of Saints-related news. For instance, Glazer broke the Jimmy Graham blockbuster trade that sent Graham to Seattle for Max Unger and a draft pick, and more recently broke Sean Payton’s extension that locks up the coach through 2024. And now Glazer, in a Q&A with The Athletic (subscription required), has said this about Taysom Hill’s future for the New Orleans Saints: "No smokescreen, he’s the guy. Sean Payton loves him but it’s not just him, the whole team loves him, not just Sean Payton. Watch a Saints game. When he’s in the game, watch the other players on the sideline, watch their reaction. They all get up and stand on the sidelines to watch him. I think Sean was always hoping to unleash him on the league without anyone seeing him before but now we’ve seen it with Lamar Jackson. He’s a bigger Lamar Jackson. No, it’s not a smokescreen. He likes him that much, he’ll be the guy. He’s with the perfect coach for that." If Glazer is reaffirming how much Sean Payton loves Taysom Hill, you can pretty much take that word to the bank. Maybe all we’ve been seeing from the Saints, in building the offensive line, drafting a player like Tommy Stevens who could back up Taysom as a starter, and easing Taysom more and more into the offense at quarterback have been steps taken to make Taysom “the guy” as early as 2021. Or maybe Payton is just trying to talk Taysom up in the hopes Bill O’Brien trades Deshaun Watson and J.J. Watt to the Saints for him. |

With Sean Payton as HC, you just don't know who will end up as QB once Brees exits left. I still believe the heir apparent is on another team.
Jay Glazer is a credible source though so there's that. To be continued ... |

I hope we get to see Taysom starting at QB, but I never believe things Payton says to the media until they happen.
Saying "no smokescreen" sounds like a smokescreen lol |

He could be. Sometimes I have to do a double take because he has absorbed a lot from Brees. The way he calls plays at the line, goes through progressions. Accuracy is no Brees but it's good enough and will improve with more muscle memory from reps.
One scenario not discussed is him as the starter and the new rookie playing his former gadget role next year. I could see that working out. He's no Taysom but as a runner, kid is big and hard to takedown. |

He'll probably get a year to prove himself after Drew hangs up his cleats. If that doesn't work Payton will have options.

Re: Taysom Hill pegged again as Saints quarterback of the future
The Drew Brees era is coming to an end. Sooner than later. It's been a great run. There's just no one like Brees that's going to do what Brees does/did. When people think "Brees' heir" I think they must be thinking of someone who can do somewhat of what Brees does. That player does not exist. Taysom Hill is a winner. A different style than Brees, but like Brees he's going to find a way to win. And he has the ability to take it all on his shoulders and make it happen. That's the ingredient your looking for. He's got it, & Sean knows it. Give Taysom the damn ball and back up.

Like clockwork man... Jay Glazer reports the same thing every 3 months.
