Re: USA Today SaintsWire: 2021 free agency: Saints would be hit harder than most by depressed salary cap
This may be addressed by the agreement with the players union. The players were just granted one of their demands to start the season on time ... zero preseason games. They had to have given up something in return and that may have been a percentage of their 2020 salaries going into escrow to offset any hit to the 2021 cap.

Awww, the poor coddled millionaires might have to make less millions.

Every time I turn around there is another COVID reaction that is just devastating. And I'm not just talking football.

The loss of revenue will be spread out over years, but the salary cap WILL go down next season. It feels like a virtual certainty that we won’t be re-signing Brees because of cap limitations.

Could see them reworking his contract to spread out the cap hit, but just don't see him playing past this season... What's really worrisome with the cap likely not increasing, we've yet to extend Ramczyk, Lattimore, Mr. Marcus, Kamara... Then there's all three linebackers' contracts expiring; there's gonna be several painful decisions to be made... And All this rolling debt forward that Loomis' has been praised will face the reality of the bill coming due... |

And I fully expect Brees to be returning once again in 2021. Why wouldn't he as long as he is still performing at a high level and enjoying playing the game ... the two factors he has consistently given? Throw in the race for all-time records and I simply don't see him hanging it up as long as Brady is still playing. |

As long as Brees wants to keep playing cap limitations will not stand in the way of his remaining a Saint. Players know that with the current global economics new contracts will be far more fluid for the next few years. Every industry is being hit around the world.
