Works good enough to win more games than anyone else over the past three years. Is that losing the edge?

But how to do better? He's human. He has done the best job of any coach in Saints history to make us relevant. Give him credit for that. But, how much is truly on him. There are a dozen other coaches, 53 players, all those officials, and the damned shape of the ball that come into play.

What is it exactly he needs to do better? I have to give it to you, diz. You are the first one out of the many others that has even attempted to answer that question.

Much respect!

So for me its the following;

Play calling and general Game Management/ awareness in the playoffs is extremely suspect.

He abandons the run far too quickly, Murray wanted to hurt his old team and Payton kept him on the sideline whilst Brees got destroyed behind a crumbling O line.
The only reason we were relevant at all in the Vikings game was because of the elements that Taysom Hill brought and despite the defense being gassed, they somehow still managed to keep it close, even despite constant 3 and outs by the offense.

2018 Rams game - everyone and I mean everyone knew the Rams were going to run a fake punt, I barely watched them all year and even I heard they have a tendency to do it. That play gave the Rams full momentum, even despite the no call, we were not winning that game once they had us on the ropes.

I sincerely hope adding Sanders to our offense will stop defenses being able to key on Kamara and Thomas as they tend to in the playoffs, but until proven otherwise, this Payton led team seems to be asleep in the playoffs, wakes up late in the 4th quarter, only to lose dramatically.

My honest opinion - I think Pete C should be the primary play caller, giving Payton more time to view the game from the overall perspective.

Agreed, my comments aren’t meant to intimate that Payton isn’t a valuable HC, or that he needs to be cut loose. it’s merely to point out our playoff record, outside of the 2009 SB year isn’t indicative of anything special. For MANY reasons.

I’m not of the mindset that “feel better cuz you could be 3-13” is a legitimate excuse for going 13-3 and losing in the wildcard round.

But..., to each their own.

Could that excuse be because of a bad bounce, or a bad call, or a bad play? Yup. That his fault?
