Could We Trade Winston to New England or Dallas?
We are not using Winston at all, and he is third string. There is no indication we plan to keep him. Newton is imploding in New England and the Patriots don't have great alternatives. Belichick loved high upside projects and always has extra draft picks he could part with for a player with upside. Meanwhile in Dallas Andy Dalton can't score a TD in two games with a loaded offense and is hurt now. Just thinking, could a move like this make sense? We could use an extra draft pick for the future. At least when Winston throws INTs he also throws TDs which is an upgrade over what NE and Dallas have right now.

Absolutely makes sense. I’d move him for a 2nd at the minimum. Unfortunately, those teams aren’t going to try to salvage the season and would prefer a shot at Lawrence/Fields/Lance/Wilson.

I think everything is on the table, but I think the Pats in in the game for the highest draft pick. Can Newton imploding is no surprise.

Re: Could We Trade Winston to New England or Dallas?
So, I could agree with Dallas, but not with New England. Bill Belichick understands that losing is like the worst disease ever. Belichick went 11-5 with Matt Cassell. Belichick has 20 years of instilling in the Patriots that losing is never ok. I don't think he tanks for a pick because you can't just flip a switch and change the mentality that you teach the roster when you accept losing. The rest of the NFC East tanked for picks for 20 years and never surpassed New England who never did. I think he wants to win. I think he is pissed. I would be. Cam was a good experiment and looked good at first. But in some people COVID-19 can linger and lower testosterone for awhile, like taking reverse steroids. The Pats may just need a QB to at least get back to Matt Cassell levels and never lower to Jets standards.

I think this is way more likely than a MT trade. Probably a big reason why Payton took Winston in the first place, knew it would always be an option if needed. Same with TB until he realized everything TB brought to the table including his personality and locker room presence.
I haven’t seen Winston on the sideline or heard any mention of him at all for that matter. |

If Winston is traded, I would be hopeful that some additional safety help is brought in. I do believe the Cowboys would be very interested in Winston, especially since Dalton got what appears to be a major concussion and the division title is still within reach.

Re: Could We Trade Winston to New England or Dallas?
It’s a sellers market. We most likely end up with a 3rd in the draft at worst. Nothing less than a 2nd but that most likely won’t happen. Dallas could have any top QB and they still wouldn’t be a good team. Defense is probably the worst in the league and the OL is playing like trash.

Re: Could We Trade Winston to New England or Dallas?
Do you think Winston has corrected his problems under Payton and Drew's tutelage? Has he had enough time in our system to improve his QB play? I'd like to move him and give Ireland more ammunition for the draft next year. I don't believe we will bring him back next year. You can't fix stupid...but you can trade them!
