Drew Brees Almost Never Throws Deep Anymore. Is That A Problem For The Saints?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Drew definitely showed the people who said he was washed up. Drew wasn't chunking a lot of deep balls but they all got there including the midfield darts for 15-25 yards....

Drew Brees

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS QB

Count us among those who prematurely declared Brees' arm on life support earlier this year. Few QBs are throwing with his touch right now, and he's also endured a shuffling supporting cast. He's been really good, and the Saints look alive again.

Joe Montana threw many a pass to Jerry Rice where there was tons of YAC.

When Drew forces a duck with pressure - like the 1st half of the Vikings playoff game was a big turning point

When drew keeps it in the 15-25 yard range he is so accurate

When he hits someone in stride - that’s just like a deep pass

That being said, A 5,000 yard passer is a 5,000 yard passer is a 5,000 yard passer. Using your logic, no passer other than DB#9 can pass for 5,000 yards in a CSP offense..., bc they have never done so, lol. That makes no sense, at all. Nobody knows what Winston can do. Heck, we really don’t know what Taysom can do. When Coach says it’s time to move away from DB#9, I’m ready. Actually I’m anxious and eager. I get excited for the future, I’m bored of the recent past. Regardless, it’s not my call to make. I give praise also, where I feel praise is due, and I defend players when it’s not in the best of interest of my “reputation” lol around here. But, I make my cases, and move on. If someone disproves my views to my satisfaction then I change my view. I’m not perfect, and don’t expect my statements to be without faults. They are just opinions amigo. The overwhelmingly majority of posts here are nothing but op/ed. Contrary to what you believe of yourself, I view your opinions as nothing more than that..., opinions. No greater, no more less than anybody else.

Cheers my friend, grab a glass of a good red wine, relax. It’s a beautiful world and life, even with all the harrumph’ing around, lol, and I’ve done my share of that. But..., I’ll do it with a smile on my face and sans anger in my heart.

Take care.
You are bored when we are a few games away from winning the division for the forth consecutive time and make the playoffs every year? How long have you been a Saints fan? It really doesn’t get much better than this. Enjoy it while you can because it’s highly likely we don’t see another Qb that can consistently keep you in the hunt in spite of ****ty defensive play. We may never find another one. Enjoy it for what it is while you can.

It disturbs me whenever I agree complete with what you say, but it seems to happen more frequently lately.

Here's a thought. Drew's arm is surgically repaired and it could be wearing down or it could be arthritis setting into an old injury. It's a common problem for Old Boy Rugby players.

There are those of you who are happy with just making it to the playoffs only to get booted early. Three years in a row, and what is there to show for it? Nothing. Not even one Conference championship in that time period. I’ve been a Saints fan since 1978 when the family moved, along with me at the ripe age of 10, to the MS Gulf Coast.

As many a fan here have stated, the team has the GOAT QB, maybe even HC also. And yet in the CSP and DB#9 years the team has one, single, solitary conference championship and SB.

Eli Manning has two, and he’s as average a QB as one can get. If the Saints dynamic duo are as great as what many here state, then why aren’t there more championships?

Offensive player homer’s always point to the defense as the weakness. While Defensive player homer’s point to the offense not scoring enough. Bottom line is there should have been more championships, conference and SB, than just one with the GOAT QB at the helm. Only one thing matters to me:

Production

And the only way to measuring that production is success, or lack of it, ultimately it’s who wins the SB. Only one team succeeds every year. As a great fictional American once quipped: “If you ain’t first..., you’re last”.

Ah! I get it. 1978. Just a newbie.

There are now 32 teams in the NFL. "Should have been more championships" are rare for all but a very small few. The Saints have experienced more success than many in a much smaller market.
