New Orleans Saints: Analyzing the team’s debilitating pass-coverage woes

Heading into the season, the Saints were expected to have a well-rounded coverage unit. So far, they’ve been one of the least productive units in the NFL.

The Saints always knew they were going to field a talented offense this season, and so far, that has turned out to be the case.

Although they rank just 13th in yards/play, their offense has scored 27+ points in their last four games, which is impressive given the injuries they’ve dealt with at the receiver position, especially to Michael Thomas.

Unfortunately, the defense has not held its end of the bargain, and that explains why New Orleans possesses a very modest +6 point differential. After six games, they rank 24th in points allowed/game (29), and since the offense is giving the ball away less than one time per game, that’s all on the defense.

What has gone wrong for a unit that yielded such high expectations coming into the season? Can they rebound? Let us take a closer look!
